Fun Facts

B, your tool-bar is welcome on my laptop anytime!

Fact: I (female half) reside in the poorest state (MS) and it does NOT have a lottery for the citizens to waste their money on.

For the record, I bought a ticket when we were in Nola and I could sense Mr. U didn't approve (should've seen his expression) but he's a smart man and refrained from opening his mouth and inserting his foot.

FF: Owning a hamster is illegal in Hawaii! The climate is close to their natural desert habitat, so they would be able to thrive and reproduce into feral packs if they ever got loose!

"After buying lottery tickets, beer and cigarettes, they don't have anything left over for internet access. They have no means to defend themselves against these horrible accusations. (A Sarah McLachlan song is playing the background as I type this). "

There's the Choucho I remember.

OK, I've been taken for a ride.

Thankfully, I've found a few SFs and some F-halves of couples who'll let me install my tool bar from time to time. Installation...Removal...Installation...Well, y'all understand, even the uneducated ones.

Now, there's no funner fact than THAT.

My take on it, is that he's totally yanking your chain. And you continue to fall for it.

Chou is Robby your youngest child?

My take on that is uneducated people are more willing to install toolbars than the rest of the population.

Oh, choucho! You make me feel so so sad for those poor poor people! {daubing at eyes} I never realized how bad they had it!

No, Alexa is not counting profiles on SLS. They use traffic statistics from the internet and they have a toolbar people can install and then they can monitor those people's internet usage. They call that their traffic panel. From their website:

"Data Normalization

Alexa's ranking methodology corrects for a large number of potential biases in our sample and calculates the ranks accordingly. We normalize based on the geographic location of site visitors. We correct for biases in the demographic distribution of site visitors. We correct for potential biases in the data collected from all the various browser extensions to better represent those types of site visitors who might not be in Alexa's measurement panel. However, biases still exist, and to the extent that our sample of users differs from the set of all internet users, our traffic estimates may over- or under-estimate the actual traffic to any particular site."

What that says is that there can be biases in the statistics. Why I'm quoting it is because Va said, "All statements I am making are statistically driven." So all statements he makes can have biases, so maybe he is wrong, which means maybe I am right, which means that MAYBE poor people on welfare should play the lottery, just in case! :)

Incidentally, I have never purchased a lottery ticket. I'm just defending the poor, poor people who don't have a voice here. EVEN Robert isn't as poor and downtrodden as these people. After buying lottery tickets, beer and cigarettes, they don't have anything left over for internet access. They have no means to defend themselves against these horrible accusations. (A Sarah McLachlan song is playing the background as I type this).

"uneducated people are over-represented on SLS."

Just wondering how many profiles did they have to review before making that determination.

"uneducated people are over-represented on SLS."

FF: I don't always represent an SLS member, but when I do, I over-represent the uneducated behavior of the average member.

Good discussion. Wish I had time to join in, but business is booming and I'm still short handed.

You can chain me up and yank it! I'll submit to your superiority.

Interesting.

The financial success of a website doesn't necessarily mean that those who are using it like the way it performs.

I am not familiar with Alexa, but I suspect that the manner in which the information gathered may not accurately represent the true number of unique individual users. This site allows an unlimited number of free memberships. Members, especially free members, may have multiple accounts using multiple methods of accessing the site.

Below average education/intelligence? I don't recall being asked our level of education when registering.

Maybe ALexa has been fucked by the members of this site...?

p.s. I have never, ever called the people running SLS stupid. I've had plenty of criticisms with respect to how they do it, but don't attribute quotations to me that I've never said.

Windermere, FL, Us

I'm not sure about that, but I am sure that it's pointless.

I'm not going to bother with this. He's yanking your chain.

Moron, Buenos Aires, Ar

Va,

I've seen you numerous times criticize SLS for being poorly run and the people that operate it being stupid. So how do you explain its success? Are you familiar with Alexa? It tracks other websites. Go there and put in this sites domain name. Right now it's ranked around 12500 in the world, 3000 in the USA. That's pretty damn good (there are about 644 million active websites in the world)! I can tell you, with stats like that, they ain't hurtin' for money.

So apparently, stupid people can take chances and make money (your words so to speak).

Another interesting thing I noticed over on Alexa is that, according to their stats, uneducated people are over-represented on SLS.

Windermere, FL, Us

I said primary, and of course an individual case can face outside influences which wreck any chance of success (or guarantee it no matter how stupid the decision is).

All statements I am making are statistically driven. Nobody makes large numbers of investments with 100% (or 0%) success.

Your statistical Warren Buffet is a winner. An individual one might be beaten into a coma on the street this morning, or have Bill Gates die and leave him his fortune.

Your statistical lottery winner is a loser. Almost all individual ones are too. A very very few hit the jackpot.

Lancaster, PA, Us

I concur wholeheartedly. However, I am slightly biased.

Just look at the planning and thought, and subsequent outcome for Lewis Winthorp, III and Billy Ray Valentine.

Windermere, FL, Us

Jinx, it doesn't matter whether it's Warren Buffett or someone you've never heard of, or whether their investments are short-term, long-term, stocks, comic books, orange crop futures, or empty soda bottles. The quality of the thought you put into your investment is the primary determinate in the outcome, not chance.

I don't remember to whom I should credit this quotation (possibly Fun or tbr):

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I'm seriously blown away by your statements, Choucho. You've consistently been sharp-witted with respect to smartassery and well-timed zingers. A part of me tells me you are overplaying the role of devil's advocate, because I can't believe you can be so blind on this one.

Moron, Buenos Aires, Ar

"I'll give you a chance to correct that statement by pointing out that I used the word "random" for someone else, and not for Warren Buffett. Did you notice this distinction?"
LOL!!! Yes, I did notice. So Warren Buffett doesn't pick stocks randomly, he has some sort of a system?

So he has a stock picking system that makes him successful? Sort of like how some people that play the lottery have a system for picking the winning lottery numbers? GOT IT! As long as you don't do something randomly, you will be successful!

I deal with Morons every day here in Argentina. I don't know why I argue with these people. In the end it always turns out the same way.
