The My Wall section is undergoing maintenance

Another thing on our old guitar site.. the owners and management kept us updated almost weekly on the transition and all understood and why it was done.. The merge was seamless and all were happy..

As I have learned running a major operation keeping people in the dark will only make people mad, start unnecessary rumors, and many will go away..

Honesty is always best policy with customers!

Italian- I can say we would only join the new site if our Unlimited/Lifetime membership transferred over. Based off our experience over the last few years here, there's no way we would consider giving SLS/Dashboard any more money until it's proven they can operate a new site with updated code that functions consistently and properly. We're members of other sites that have either monthly or annual subscriptions as they don't offer lifetime ones. And we gladly pay those fees because they are up to date sites that at least give me a warm fuzzy feeling of being secure. A free membership here isn't even worth the aggravation.

If that's what ends up happening (which all signs point to) and the foist a new site upon us, many will be very skeptical of ponying up another lifetime/unlimited fee as many are already seeking and joining alternatives. Just the lack of transparency would be enough to move away. All the membership base wants is to know what the actual intentions are.

So I just checked the old guitar web site Learn and Master Guitar by Steve Krenz from Nashville .. Gibson did buy him out and migrated his web site to the NEW SITE.. Guitar Gathering name.. Very interesting!

Oh WOW how funny just saw it.. guess they in fact were working on what I had suggested from our old guitar web site who did same !

Well, I remember when a bunch of us questioned the change in terms from "Lifetime" to "Unlimited". We were told that there would be no change to the privileges of Lifetime membership with the new name... for the life of the SLS site. I specifically remember personally bringing up the possibility of those privileges not being operative if everything was migrated to another site, based on that word choice.

If we actually get a site with stable code that operates like a normal website which has been produced in the past 20 years, I'll be happy. And when the inevitable payment adjustments start, I might think hard about continuing. Unfortunately based on past experience, I don't have much confidence that we'll get a stable, working site using the SLS "custom" code.

And now I got my say in before the topic gets locked...

I think you’re dead on. I believe he/they are staying silent because they don’t want to deal with the barrage of complaints that will come with the fee to join the new site. Lifetime members will be up in arms. If the new site actually works all the time, it’s worth paying for.

NandN, I'm really hoping that the switch is to a site with updated and functional code, a clean slate. One thing I find annoying is that I've asked about swing dot com several times here in the Website forums and Wayne has been silent. We all know perfectly well that he's read the question (he reads EVERYTHING in the Website forum), but I think that the SLS community would appreciate a simple "yeah, we're working on a new site with new code and we're hoping to have it up soon. In the meantime, we're just trying to keep the old side running long enough to make the transition". That would go a long ways towards keeping the peace around here, and incidentally making Wayne's life a lot easier.

Sorillo is onto something with the name change. We’ve all noticed the gold logo that’s there then it’s not. If I had to guess they’re gonna flip the switch and turn off this site, then flip on the switch and turn on the other. Money grab? Maybe. However, if they really do meet with developers every day and go over what needs to be done, they’re doing it on swing dot com. Even the most inept people could eventually figure out the issues haunting this site for the past few weeks, months, years. Maybe they’re gonna surprise us one day with a fully functional website. Get your popcorn and stay tuned.

The Wall was an effort to try and make this site more like a Facebook experience. They added the Friends feature and the Wall around the same time, but neither really added any usability nor was wanted by the membership (at least literally EVERYONE we've talked to).

Nobody else knows what the wall is for either.

What is the wall for? I have never seen it nor used it.

No secrets here. I think SLS is simply renaming itself. If you type swing dot com in your browser, it will take you to a login screen that will accept your SLS credentials, and you will be back to the regular SLS home page.

Get rid of the wall.. no one uses it.. one less thing to worry about and fix.. its called a smart management decision.

I guess the Swing dot com site transition is all secret squirrel, hmmm?

The message counter isn’t broken, they just turned it off. I was told it’s like a light switch, they can turn it on and off whenever they choose. Maybe they’re saving electricity?

"The wall is undergoing maintenance"....and we care about this why?

By the way, the mail counter is still not working... Always something with this site.

So Wayne, I'm curious. Can you tell us about the new Swing dot com site that's coming? Is it a totally new site with new working code or is it an offshoot to increase the reach of the existing SLS site? I mean, if SLS is migrating to a new site with new code that's updated to modern standards, I'm sure that we would all be happy to hear that this is in progress. Might alleviate some of the speculation and griping if we were reasonably informed about future plans.

Maybe we’re trying to get Mexico to pay for it.

At least we have the cool new jumping logo... so there's that.

According to SLS customer service rep 98% of the time. Not sure what function if any that the wall fullfills but we all know maintenance on here is usually the kiss of death.

I may have missed it before, but I just noticed a new red banner. Since when did the My Wall section of this site ever work to begin with?
