Site suggestions

From my limited interactions with [insert Customer Support name here], it seems [insert Customer Support name here] is completely out of the loop as to why changes have been made and what changes will be made. I hope [insert Customer Support name here] can prove this untrue, but I see no evidence yet that I'm wrong.

Further, I can see no signs that the owner[s] of this site desire to keep anyone but themselves informed as to the future "innovations" for the site or the app. Again, I'd like to be proven wrong, but I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

"It no longer breaks up messages into smaller pieces and the text input box expands as you type..."

There's still something weird about message size, because the counter is counting something when it tells me I have two or five messages (that are really just one) and my text input box does not expand, so I hope nobody has declared victory yet.

Wayne - Nice to know. I've been manually keeping my messages short, opting to send 2 or 3 smaller ones versus one bigger one so never noticed the change. With the way it was, there was no point in having the Enter key not send the message because it was unlikely you'd need a paragraph break. It's still not email, but this is an actual improvement. Thanks.

It no longer breaks up messages into smaller pieces and the text input box expands as you type so you can see all of what you typed. They also added a 1 hour delay for posting timestamps. So if you are in a live conversation with someone, it will not disrupt the flow of the conversation and insert timestamps unless an hour passes with neither of you sending anything.

Wayne - I thought the message limit was 255 characters before it split? Did it get increased?

On my phone now but will try it later on my laptop. Pretty much anything more that 2 lines of text on my laptop was splitting the message, at least when the new Message system was first released

It works the same as the old mailbox. The ENTER key works to send a linebreak and you have a 'Send' button to actually send the message. People want to be able to break up their messages into paragraphs. I do not consider the character limit to be small, but I guess that is a matter of opinion. I believe it is around 2500 characters. That isn't as much as the old system, but I am pretty sure that limit is more than enough to cover 90% of the typical message people send on this site. So far, I have never needed more than that to get my point across to someone.

Huh. The last time I pasted part of a conversation with [insert Customer Support name here], my profile was suspended for three days. In fact, I was told that even mentioning a name of someone I wasn't actually talking to directly in the forum was a violation and would result in a suspension. And yet, here I read a pasted part of a conversation with no ill effects. Figures.

Could we at least possibly get someone to change the new Message to accept Enter to send a message rather than having to press that arrow? Since the message limit is so small there is no point in using Enter to add a line break.

A number of times now I thought I sent a message only to see it still sitting there because I hit Enter instead of clicking on the arrow. Definitely not intuitive.

I totally agree with MandC508. The splitting up of messages into bits and pieces with words cut in half is annoying. Is SLS doing this because it is a lot cheaper than the old mail system? Are they trying to push people to use other mail systems after an initial contact is made? That is likely what is going to happen. You are not the only company that thinks they have to constantly fix things that aren't broken. Banks are some of the worst offenders, but at least there you can take your money and go somewhere else. If you are a lifetime member, you are stuck with what ever SLS decides what is best for you, even if 100% of the people don't agree. It makes you feel like "We already have your money so why should we care what the customers want".

Less features means less service needs. The money keeps coming and management has less to service. This change Only serves Management.

I'm not going back to re-read every thread on the topic of the abolished Mail feature. But I don't recall a single post that said they prefer the new Message only way to communicate. Many profiles we read specifically said they didn't want to be contacted by IM. And (just an observation from memory), it seemed to us that as we scrolled through profiles on line, many more had the IM feature off than had it on. So right from the start, people obviously preferred not to use it. With no specific statistics to point to, it's safe to assume that the majority of members of SLS didn't like or use this feature. And I think much of the anger posted in these threads stems from the fact that we have all been forced into using a feature that most of us didn't like. We admit that we always kept our IM on, because we liked the spontaneity of an instant message (both receiving and sending). We liked when the doorbell sounded as a reminder if I was working in another program or had stepped away from the laptop. We had many good exchanges with couples on IM. But we still preferred to communicate using Mail because you could be more eloquent, conversant, and thoughtful. We could be ourselves, and we felt like we got a better sense of who the people were that we were talking to. So yes, we miss the old Mail system, and it's clear from these Forums that most people miss it as well. Despite all the vocal complaining, nothing has changed. Forum posts have been made and Support Tickets have been submitted. Our usage patters and opinions were not considered when SLS decided to eliminate the Mail, and our complaints since the change was implemented has not resulted in any change back to the old way.

Lifetime members have already paid, and judging by the number of new profiles we see, Paid Members have not dropped off. We don't have an ability to express our opinions in the most capitalist of ways, which is to use our wallets. The are other swinger web sites out there, many of them that have certain features and advantages that are so much better than SLS. But not one of them, as a whole, is as good as what I get from SLS. Yes, this site suffers from performance issues. It feels archaic. It lacks features that could make the user experience a hundred times better. The approval process for Hot Dates and profile changes is cumbersome and untimely. The banishment of references to outside forms of communication comes across as paranoid. And it's disappointing as hell that the owners/operators don't consider the opinions of their customers. But SLS still offers the best combination of features for us:
Nationwide and international members. Especially in the northeast where we are. No other swinger site covers or area as well, and we have access to more people in areas we travel to. The active forums are and under-rated feature. Looking beyond the complaint threads, there are some great discussions on sex, fantasies, experiences, tips, hints, etc, etc, etc. There are people here willing to help others improve their profiles, offer advice when we encounter problems, offer suggestions on travel & clubs. Not to mention very active participants for games, word play, even long running discussions for trivial discussions like "What's for breakfast". The community here and its willingness to help & share is awesome. We've come to accept that the Mail system isn't coming back. We'll use the Message system because it's then only method of communicating with other members on this web site. Then if we choose to have further conversations, there are other off site methods we can move to. In a perfect world, SLS would listen to its customers and give them what they want. But for us, this site still offers the best combination of what we're looking for, and we're choosing to focus less on the negativity. We're here for positive adult fun. We accept that Mail isn't coming back, and we'll make the best of what we have.

By my estimate, fully 95% of the members hate the new system which, in SLS admins' opinion counts as a success.

“There is no indication that the old system will be returning. It is being phased out. They will be making some updates to the new system based on customer feedback.

CustomerService - Wayne”

Wayne, I apologize for copying and pasting this but I was unable to reply in the other thread. It said it was locked?
But my question is, have you received or read some feedback regarding the new messaging system? I believe the customers are not happy with the change.
Maybe a statement to clarify the direction you are heading would help us understand? Not being argumentative about this, just trying to help.
