Does the mobile app track your location?

<p>The mobile app does not do any location tracking. I specifically asked the app developer this question a while back and here is his exact answer:</p>

<p> </p>

<p>"<span style="background-color:rgb(248, 248, 248); color:rgb(29, 28, 29); font-family:slack-lato,applelogo,sans-serif; font-size:15px">It just uses the setting for the profile location. So if they go to a different state, they will have to manually change their location in the &ldquo;Edit Profile&rdquo; screen.</span><span style="background-color:rgb(248, 248, 248); color:rgb(29, 28, 29); font-family:slack-lato,applelogo,sans-serif; font-size:15px">This was intentional as we did not want to invade peoples privacy or imply that they are being tracked."</span></p>

We were recently traveling and changed our location on the site to our destination. While in that location, we got a number of views of our profile. So far so good. Before leaving, we changed our address back to our home area. Here's the interesting part. We split the trip into two parts to make it easier on us. Interestingly, during our stop and a midpoint, we suddenly got a slew of views of our profile. I have the app on my phone and closed the app but didn't log us off.

My question is did the app use location info from my phone to update our location causing folks to see us as online in their area? Would the app using the phone's location information actually override the location specified in the website database?

Curious, isn't it?
