As an example of a melding of the vine/tree motif and the symbiotic tattoo, do an image search of "windswept cypress" or possibly a bonsai. Now imagine the trunk and larger branches on the male body, while the finer, more delicate branches are reaching across the female body in an alluring way. Modify the image so that it works well when you are together and when viewed separately.

That's something I've never seen before in body art, but I think it'd be pretty frickin' awesome to see.

I've often turned up a nose at the current trend towards tattoos, mainly because the majority of them are so horribly BAD. Hamhanded ink by tattooists who can't use a line finer than 1/8 inch. Cliches like tribals (unless you're of Maori ancestry, of course), script lettering on the torso that looks like poetic grocery lists (for some reason, quite popular for young women right now) etc. Basically, if it's up on the tattoo parlor's example wall, it's probably not a bad idea to stop and think first.

And for Dog's Sake, if you have any text in a tattoo, RUN SPELL CHECK FIRST.

Having said that, there's some really awesome tattooing out there, IF you take the time to find a tattooist who really knows their craft and if you choose art that is exceptional and unique.

One thing art-wise that I've always admired is the Pre-Raphaelites. Basically, post-Romantic visual arts from the late 19th century. Especially the use of vine and tree motifs. I've seen tattoos using the same motifs that are quite beautiful (including on some folks here in the fora, if memory serves). I have several illustrated vintage books from that era with lots of that kind of imagery, and I used a lot of that as a basis for jewelry-making when I was into that about 20 or so years ago.

Basically, don't restrict yourself to just looking at "tattoo art" to decide what you want. Expand your search, and you can come up with something truly distinctive.

AZMnM The symbiotic tattoo sounds like a lovely idea. Not rushing into anything. Once we find a model or type of tattoo we can both agree on we will go from there. We have some excellent recommendations for local Tattoo Artists. Apparently Nashville is fortunate in that regard. "He" loves the "placement/location" of the traditional tramp stamp but have yet to find the right art/model. "She" is still wanting to be able to see and admire her body art herself without benefit of contortion or a series of mirrors!

NCalCouple Would love to know more about the body painting. Out artistic abilities are lacking and the results would look like finger paint in the second childhood nursing home class.

Serious contributors feel free to PM us with links.

I'd offer a suggestion, but they want something tasteful.

Trying to convince my wife to get a "M" on each butt cheek.

When she bends over it would read MoM.

THEN, if I lay her on her back, and raise her legs, it reads W{0}W !!!!!

My wife does body painting when she wants to decorate her body with pretty art. It washes off so she can change the art the next time she wants art on her body

LadyBSirG, between the wife and I we have 6 tattoos and we are working on designing matching tattoos that will create a whole new tattoo when we stand side by side, it/they are creative, funny, cute and corny. As for your tattoos, to each their own, no one can tell you what is best or right for you...except you!
We would definitely advise you to NOT get a "tramp stamp" on your lower back (its just SOOO outdated! sez our kids).
Make the tattoo your own, customize it, change colors, add or remove anything, change the size...just make it "yours" and enjoy it and all the reactions to it, good and bad (I love when people try to lecture me about the evils of getting ink).
Please, do good research before choosing where you go, there are tons of "ink slingers" around, but damned few real tattoo artists.
Finally, when you get the new ink, please send us the bird and show it to us, I'm curious to see what you guy decide on.

Might I suggest a Tramp stamp?

We are rapidly nearing 60 years old. We have one tattoo each, on upper arm/shoulder area. Debating another.
He is voting for something delicate near the small of her lower back for her. She wants to be able to see it without straining and looking at a mirror. LOL
We want sexy, tasteful, visually stimulating to one other, etc.
Suggestions for each? Show us yours?
