We need Comprehensive immigration REFORM.

The Committee Rubio on came up with a bi-partisan policy.

The GOP sunk it.

We’ve never had a “secure” border and we never will no matter how much Wall is built and Border Patrol officers are hired.

So many undocumented people in the USA are here by overstaying their Visas.

The government could do much more to enforce business from hiring undocumented workers, but a lot of businesses want cheap labor and they break rules about hiring or look the other way. Fine at high rates business owners
for hiring undocumented and you would do more to “secure” the border than Trump’s Wall.

President Reagan signed legislation that gave asylum to many indictmented in USA. Do something wise and compassionate with DACA dreamers. Give them pathway your citizenship and don’t deport them.

What about passing a law that fines landlords for renting out apartments to the undocumented (require proof of citizenship to rent). Of course this will not happen. The landlords profit too much from them

You need to examine who is profiting from undocumented people.

The agricultural industry depends so much on this labor.

The GOP has stirred up so much fear and nonsense about an unsecure border and xenophobia about Mexican rapists
and MS-13 and Covid superspreaders etc, etc, that sensible compromise border reform legislation has become impossible. Who is at fault for that?

No one on the Right discusses statistics about how many undocumented people have left the USA in last two years. Because of COVID, jobs in service and hospitality and other business got significantly reduced, and people doing those jobs went back across the border to their home country.

So do you think Trump appealed to xenophobia and racism and fearmongering on border issues in his campaign for presidency in 2016?

Just ask: who is profiting the most financially from undocumented workers and people in USA and who is profiting politically with most donations and votes from fearmongering about border issues?

Is there anyone—or any party—in Congress who you blame for the failure to enact Comprehensive Immigration Reform?

It’s telling for me that Sen Marco Rubio participated in the drafting of a bi partisan plan for Comprehensive Immigration Reform but then would not vote for it.

Why did he withdraw his support for a bill or reform plan he helped draft?

For me, Congress is responsible for the failure to enact such legislation.

But the problem of immigration throughout USA history since the 1882 Exclusion has been fraught with conflicting interests.

Remarkably, in 1965 the USA came up with a more progressive Immigration Reform legislation.

I’d say wherever there are significant political and economic troubles in the world (especially war and economic collapses), it puts pressure on immigration to the USA.

Another problem is that the USA is split or divided between those who fear the increasing diversity of the USA and those who accept it or embrace it.

The divisions in Congress reflect divisions in the USA, including some that have a deep history between opening our gates to immigration and closing them

As the grandchild of 3 out of 4 immigrant grandparents, I’m more about on the side of keeping open our gates. I’m also married to a woman born in Mexico and who came to USA with her immigrant mother in 1965. He father was a USA citizen (Mexican American) who served in the US military in WW 2.
