The last president who did not add to the federal debt was Calvin Coolidge. Clinton added 1.396 trillion to the debt in his eight years.
Anyone else bothered by .?
Don't confuse the federal deficit with the federal debt.
A deficit occurs when the government takes in less money than it spends in a given year. The debt is the total amount the government owes at any given time. So the debt goes up in any given year by the amount of the deficit, or it decreases by the amount of any surplus. The debt the government owes to the public decreased for a while under Clinton, but the debt was by no means erased.
You are wrong.
But I am about done.
If you really want to know, make the effort to find out for yourself.
As I said, I could be wrong. So, how much did the National Debt go down during Bill (the shirt) Clinton's term?
Yeah, you might be right.
Except you are not.
As usual, you spout off without any information.
Clinton's debt reduction bill was passed without a single Republican vote. Gingrich had nothing to do with it.
But whatever helps you maintain your know nothing attitude.
You will feel right at home with the rest of the right wing morons around here.
@tbrmskss. Like Clinton did? Yeah, that gave me a chuckle. That just validates my rationale for being a Greedy Independent Capitalist. With most, and apparently true with you it always comes down to the lowest common denominator of shirts versus skins. While you are giving credit to Bill the shirt, I'd imagine if any of the skins were reading along and paying attention they would allocate more credit to Newt (the skin) Gingrich.
It has been a long time since I tallied the numbers so I could be wrong and being a non shirt or skin, I'm happy to be corrected. Anyway, as I remember when you examine the absolute Debt Held by the Public + Intergovernmental Debt, the total National Debt (sans any smoke and mirror games) did not decrease during the term of Bill (the shirt) Clinton. In fact if memory serves the National Debt went up every year. However, being the Greedy Independent Capitalist I'm happy to give credit to both as 25 years ago, I made a shit load of money in the market. To bad you shirts and skins have not learned the lesson of Gingrich/Clinton
"And one day in a galaxy far far away they may actually tackle the Nations Debt."
You mean like Clinton did?
You keep saying there is no evidence when the evidence is there to examine...
Tbrmskss. At the risk of repeating myself the premise is not mine. The War on Drugs and the War on Poverty are naming conventions widely originated by the shirts and the skins. And yes, once originated by the shirts and skins the media adapted them to suit their own purpose. I did not create them and again repeating myself they were but two examples of long running spending programs absent report cards that motivated me to vote for Trump. As far as Trump himself? You are not tracking that I'm actually agreeing with you that he is a clear and present danger to the status quo and he will be stopped. The status quo cannot allow an interloper, a non politician, a business man, a misogynist, a racist, a bigot (or whatever the go to slur is today) to actually affect change. The status quo must be maintained in order for the likes of Mitch McConnell and/or Chuck Schumer to create lifelong careers out of being a Politician and continue to argue out of both sides of their mouth depending on what skin or what shirt is in power. And one day in a galaxy far far away they may actually tackle the Nations Debt. You know, like they always say they are going to do when they are not the skin or shirt in power.
@goodenuf
You're right, I am new at this.
Not bothered at all by who believes what. Everyone has a right to their opinion and to express such. That's what the forum is for. First amendment and all, right?
My original point is that calling each other "f'ing idiots" or "too stupid to vote" or "nutjob" in here really says more about the person doing the name calling than the person they think they're giving the burn to. Sounds like 8th grade playground stuff. It accomplishes nothing positive at all.
I guess haters are gonna hate. Hatred wastes a lot of energy that could be used for a better purpose IMHO. I'd rather choose to be a lover. It takes less energy and doesn't raise my blood pressure.
I realize not every poster is an American citizen but in this thread nobody's posting from overseas. Maybe I should have said residents instead?
Great.
Your premise that we can win the "war" is faulty.
The idea that it is a "war" is faulty.
The idea that we have no data on the progress of the "war" is faulty.
The idea that Trump is some kind of different politician is faulty.
Shall I go on?
Bernie Madoff?
Bernie Sanders ain't rich at all. :)
Bush's wealth all came from daddy and that is a family dynasty.
Obama - making bank now, was not before office and his income is now tied to the fact he was president. People will pay to hear him talk or read what he writes.
eroticamazon. I choose to be like the Three Bs; Bush, Barack and Bernie. More wealthy on exit than on entry. I guess that makes us like the 4-whoresmen.
Tbrmskss, my original premise can't be faulty. Why? It's not my premise. The war on poverty, in large part was named and is advocated for by the shirts (Democrats). The war on drugs, in large parts was named and is advocated for by the skins (Republicans). I would further disagree these are rhetorical devices. These are spending strategies that are in place today yet lack sufficient reporting to allow the tax payer the opportunity to assess success or failure. I must conclude that given the ongoing poverty levels argued by the shirts and the increase in drug use argued by the skins that the amount of spending has not arrested the continuing trend of poverty and drug use. In real terms I have no dog in either hunt as I'm not poor nor do I use drugs. I only bring two of many such topics up as the reason I choose to vote for Trump.
Further I've already stated that Trump can't last even though I will vote for him in 2020. Trump upsets the delicate balance between the skins and the shirts. That delicate balance being the opportunity to argue against what you were once for when your shirt or your skin was in power. Again, I'm a pure Capitalist. I have no emotional connection to the skins, the shirts or even Trump. I vote for the candidate who's policies will put more money in my investment accounts. It no more complicated than that. Trump will be but a small speed bump on the long and winding road called the Status Quo.
@PHX
You know you keep wanting to play this shirts and skins metaphor but it is incomplete. You are implying that it is just a two party system and that you do not want to identify with that system. In your world it is actually a three party system. You have the shirts and skins who are always shirts and skins and then you have yourself who, for lack of a better phrase, is a bought whore. If someone says what you want, or promises you, paraphrasing a little, "to be wealthier," you will vote for.
You seemed to have just read a snippet of what I wrote because the post supported the premise. I even gave the source of the data. And what is a touch of irony, you proved the point. You are by definition a conservative. I am not sure if that is the skin or the shirt in your world. I stated that conservatives are cheap greedy fuckers who don't want to pay for services. Congrats, you just self identified and self labeled yourself.
"...take all your anger and disrespect for each other to a different thread..."
With all due respect- you must be new at this. Are you bothered by the responses in here?
BTW, not everyone who posts in the Forum is a US citizen.
None of that bothers me, but you can add who's and whose to the list I mentioned before.
I am not missing the point. Just get pissed when people who can easily see how the past Potus and his crew did everything they could, and still are to destroy America, Are not seeing the greatness our new Potus is doing every day. And you can believe God chose Trump. Satan had his 1000 years and his time is over. Its being said every day to all of us. We will soon have a choice to make. We have all been fed whats about to come to pass. and also have all been told. We do know and the choice is ours. WWG1/WGA
Mickey
Hey all you beautiful people...
Please re-read the original post and take all your anger and disrespect for each other to a different thread. We're all citizens of the same great country here. Red is not the enemy of Blue. Skins are not the enemies of Shirts. Differences of opinion can be a good thing when you are able to have a civil conversation.
Love you guys!
Why do we call everything a war?
There is no war on poverty, anymore than there is a war on drugs. These are rhetorical devices to gin up support for government control.
We are never going to "win" these "wars." In a pure capitalist society, there will always be poor people.
People like to alter their consciousness. Always have, always will.
So your original premise is faulty.
BTW, my wife will be in your neighborhood this weekend.
She is helping a friend.
Her friends daughter has been missing for two weeks. Kiera Bergman. Maybe you have heard about her.
If there is anything you can do to help, it would be much appreciated.
i swear i dont know what planet you come from. ""IRS audits all sole proprietors until you are forced to incorporate "".. ive had one since 2002 and never been audited and always make money too.
Mickey, I don't say this about too many people, but I would prefer you not vote at all.
You are just too stupid to be trusted with something like a vote.
The Republicans are the small business owners. Once you start a business in America you get to see the corruption, the criminal Democrats up close and personal. At first you are shocked as your believe in freedom, honest government and the rule of law is destroyed. then you get desperate to survive and very cynical.
The come the Democrats treating you like their own personal piggy bank.
The come the ever increasing laws and regulations making your life a living hell.
Then the actual gtovemrent people come a knocking, all academics or government with no hands on experience in your business. Sometimes to destroy you, sometime because government is just all powerful idiots who don't know shit. An example is that the IRS audits all sole proprietors until you are forced to incorporate and pay those corporate taxes. From experience the IRS does not give a shit about how accurate your record keeping is. Its "we don't give a shit you own us 3k or take us to court and pay 30k in legal frees". ( This happened to me in my second year of business)
If you start making money the politicians come a knocking demanding your money for their campaigns or they will write laws that will hurt you, or they will kill laws that are being vote on or they will kill you. Then come the lawyers who sue you the minute you open a store front business under the various handicap laws, Give us 10k to drop this lawsuit of pay 150k to take us to court.
This is every day life of a small business owner. Government at all levels is corrupt to the extreme and something to be feared.
Obamacare targeted all the small businesses with destruction because we are the base of the Republican Party. We are the ones who have to buy health insurance on the individual market at $2.500 to $4,000 dollars a month. Look at all the empty stores everywhere , their destruction was planned and by design by the Democrats with Obamacare.
This is why people vote for the Republicans.
@mickey
You're kind of missing the point of my original post, brother.
Why can't we have a conversation about politics without cursing at each other and name calling? That gets us nowhere.
Also, I never knew God chooses the president. So he must have picked Obama as well, right?
Peace. Love. Politics.
Anger? I'm not angry, I'm a realist. If the shirts (Democrats) had won the war on poverty (as they promised) we would not have American citizens living under bridges and begging on every street corner I pass. If the skins (Republicans) had won the war on drugs (as they promised) we would not have increasing levels of over doses impacting American citizens. That's not anger, that just the facts.
In addition to an Independent, I'm an affirmed Capitalist. Very much like the shirts and the skins in Congress I want to exit wealthier than when I entered. That is not anger either, that is just plan smart.
tbr, you really are a fucking IDIOT, So what your saying is pix and people like me should have just voted for a murderer piece of shit, Who was in a plan with other Nations to bring in Agenda 21 and shit. And destroy America. Trump is the best thing ever happened to America, God did choose the right one to destroy all the Evil in America and the whole World.
Mickey
So your solution to your anger towards the existing political parties is to vote for a mob connected, racist, failed businessman with dementia?
Good call...
