It doesn't matter what political party they are registered to. If they stormed the Capital they were committing an act of insurrection and should be held accountable for it.

The kid turned the video over to FBI , also someone gave the FBI a video of Sullivan breaking a window . Sullivan was arrested and in jail . It’s great to hear you reporting that you see Alabama is getting better with public education.

I know Alabama had rated low among states in per capita spending in education. But there is more than one reason for that.

We are living increasingly in an age where more jobs demand more than a high school education.

It’s unfair in so many ways the advantages and disadvantages of being born in certain places in this country in terms of access to decent paying jobs and jobs that don’t demand hard physical labor.

My father would mock me that the only callous I have on my hands is one on a finger for gripping a pencil so much.

I would then blame him for working two jobs to give me a great private education and paying for my college with no loans for me to pay.

Michael Moore’s movies are often good at addressing these issues.

The de-industrialization of our cities and rust belt areas in the country is a deep problem in this country and I have problems with how both the Democratic Party and GOP have responded to this issue.

I have more problems not surprisingly with how the GOP has responded to it. Trump responded to this issue but in unhelpful and too demagogic ways, blaming the wrong people and promising stuff he never could deliver.

We are on very much the same page about education and public schools and the importance of parent involvement in education.

I’d add the importance of trying to provide in a democracy more equal access to information be that only funding public libraries.

My advice to parents too: turn off the television and take kids to libraries or provide them with books to read

I’ll leave it to school district administrators and Boards of Education to figure out what is fair or wise in terms of where parents can send their kids to school.

I don’t see a one size fits all answer or solution to this issue.

School districts in LA County vary widely in their spending per student.

Obviously, wealthy school districts spend more per student then poorer ones.

Is this fair?

No matter. Again, wealth has its advantages and those born into advantage have a better chance of perpetuating that advantage.

I had the great advantage growing up to live a short walk from a public library where my Mom worked as a volunteer.

I love public libraries. Books in the age of Jefferson were luxury items. Ben Franklin advocated for free public libraries. You did not need money to get access to books!

Call free public libraries socialism. I consider them one part of the heart of democracy.

The USA should keep trying to democratize access to information.

Fyi, I never had kids (thank god) so this doesn't really matter to me personally. It just seems to make sense to me

@sapp, yeah I understand that and agree too. But I paid a higher price to live in the town with better schools, doesn't seem fair for you to bring your kid to my kids school. Pay up or shut up kind of thing.

Sapp......I agree with all your statement. We did have some private schools come about in the 60's for that reason. We have some very good performing private schools and some are not good at all. Same with public. I also know parent intervention is critical to a child's development and how they start out. Head Start is a good thing. We also have in Alabama preK which the state has been ramping up the last several years. Alabama is getting better with the things it offers. Takes time and better parental involvement to make it successful. I think we all agree on more things than we realize at times.
