2FORFUN
DING! DING! DING! DING!
Could it be that everyone hates the US but as soon as they are in trouble they comming running to the US to bail them out knowing that our politicians will send our young to fight their battles over some treaty made decades ago when things were different. That plus they love the US as long we keep send money to them.
Speaking of ridiculous wars:
Apparently someone leveled the Iranian Consulate annex in Syria about ten days ago. Don't say Israel cause they wont admit it. Is rael has not "claimed responsibility for the attack but neither, in any stories I have read, have they denied it. I mean it could have been just about anyone, right?
Anyway a top Iranian military officer and a few other people were killed. Being a diplomatic mission, Iran considers it part of their territory (Deja Vu) and are pissed and threatening to retaliate. President Biden is promising to honor our iron clad security guarantees to isreal because....remind me why we have iron clad guarantees to Isreael for their security? Is it because Benjamin Netanyahu is such a level headed, popular and diplomatic guy who is always measured and proportionate in his military responses?
WTF (why?) are we seriously considering allowing this guy to drag us into a middle Eastern regional war?
Todays single male award goes to a guy in northeast Georgia,,," hey whats up". and a profile to match , profile photo looks like a mug shot!
Amazing.. !
At least it's not another Soccer War, like the one fought between El Salvador and Honduras in the late 60s.
Hahaha… I hear you currentrider
I volunteer at one of the local prison, it’s a max security with a LOT of lifers; it’s amazing some of the “illnesses” I’ve seen and heard of….
A press relaease by the Ecuadorian prison authority said hat Blas was admitted to the hospital but is in stable condition. They attributed it to his refusal to eat since his arrest. Which was, what, two days ago? Surprised they didn't say he "fell down the stairs."
Mexico vs Ecuador?
I'll take Mexico in this 3-week war.
@currentrider, Wow, you're absolutely correct on this being a big deal. I hope they get it resolved in the next couple of years as Ecuador is one of my bucket list countries to visit in a few years when I retire!
Recently, former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who was wanted by the government on corruption charges, sought asylum in the Mexican diplomatic mission in Quito. Over the weekend, Ecuadorian forces took the internationally unprecedented step of raiding the Mexican mission to arrest him.
In response Mexico has taken a shocking step of their own by breaking off all diplomatic relations with Ecuador. All Mexican diplomats have left the country.
In a show of solidarity by the international community against the stunning diplomatic violation of the Vienna convention , the diplomats were escorted to the airport by the ambassadors of Panama, Honduras, Germany and, incredibly, Cuba.
This is a pretty big deal.
There,
New post in Economics. Out.
I put this in the WTF because I thought the fact it was in Newsom's restaurant was awkward to a humorous degree. I debated about putting it in the Economics thread at the time.
It's inevitably a topic that involves some politics, but it's about money, disparity and economic logic at its core. Truly sorry for choosing to put it in this thread. Why don't we move the discussion there or at least end it in here, OK?
DB - That definitely seems to be something that gained traction post Covid. People were throwing money at restaurants to help them recover.
Those days have passed, and I otherwise never saw a need to tip on take out or counter ordered dine-in. Restaurants bigger problems seem to be finding help to handle the load
"Most states allow a lower minimum wage for restaurant servers than fast food workers because the former counts on tips a part of their pay. Why is this any different?"
I have noticed lately that many fast food places now have a TIP screen to fill out before processing your credit card payment. The most recent were a couple different Wendy's in Florida.
@ tbrmskss
Thank you for the education
Our news media here in the US just loves to cherry pick facts and only give you the ones to spin the story how they like.
The only “media” any of us can trust is what we see happen in front of our own eyes, and then you still need to research it to see what the factors were that caused it.
Hard to trust anything at all these days!
Hoping this doesn't get moved to Politics...
On a similar note to the California fast food minimum wage, The city of Minneapolis has passed an ordinance for rideshare businesses:
"Uber and Lyft claim they will cease operating in the Minneapolis area in protest of a minimum pay ordinance that the city council voted to approve last week.
The bill, to go into effect on 1 May, would establish a minimum pay of $1.40 per mile and $0.51 cents per minute for rideshare drivers, with a $5 per ride minimum. The city council voted to override the mayor’s veto of the ordinance, prompting Uber and Lyft to threaten to leave the region in response.
Minneapolis would be the only city in the US without Uber and Lyft services if the rideshare companies uphold their threat to cease operations on 1 May."

By leave the region they mean at least the entire Mpls./St. Paul metropolitan area. Which means no Uber or Lyft at MSP- the International airport. It's unclear if any other rideshare businesses will step in to provide that service.
The Mpls. city Council meets next Thursday to reconsider the ordinance.
No more tips
California does not allow a lower wage for tipped employees.
Most states allow a lower minimum wage for restaurant servers than fast food workers because the former counts on tips a part of their pay. Why is this any different?
The Louisiana minimum wage is the same as the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. The Louisiana minimum wage for tipped employees is $2.13 per hour.
~Scamp
The law does not apply to restaurants that have less than 60 locations.
Thousands of restaurants in California have that exemption.
“It seems like an open door to political pandering to one significant employment demographic after another."
Did you see the news about California Gov Gavin Newsom’s chain of restaurants is exempt from California’s $20 per hour restaurant minimum wage law? There advertising $16 per hour jobs there……..
Just find that interesting
Probably doesn't belong in WTF, but what the hell...
I'm moving into a new apartment this week, nice place, in one of the better parts of town. This afternoon I found out that one of my best local customers lives at the other end of the same building.
Small world.
'It seems like an open door to political pandering to one significant employment demographic after another."
Pandering to demographics is most of what's done at just about every level of government above the county.
Yes.
We don't really go out much lately, but if we want a burger, we go to one of the local greasy spoons rather than a fast food place.
We get service and a beer if desired for not much more than Mc Donald's
