Agree 100%, we pay over $100 a month for cable and watch 5 maybe 6 of the 100’s of channels, most of which are duplicates or just plain ol crap……..

"So in case anyone missed it, North Korea is again sending volleys of balloons full of literal shit into South Korea."

S.Korea should gather a bunch of empty food wrappers, restaurant, fast food, and department store ads and car ads, and pics of the youth in bars and clubs in balloons.

And balloons with pounds of rotted meat in other ballons and send them across the border.

If this "What they want you to see" thing is in relation to ads, I've gotten very good at completely ignoring them. That applies to any media in general.

I think in some cases you're bombarded with ads so that you'll pay extra money to opt out. For example, even though I ignored the content of the ads, Hulu became unbearable to watch anything that was reasonably popular with ads. At times, it would literally be 3 mins of show then 5 mins of ads.

I have found that social media sites filter out what 'you' want to see and show you what 'they want' you to see. That is why I left social media. Now, I can't say for certain, but also tread lightly on saying this... I have seen a small amount of that type of filtering here on SLS. It only happens when I do not clear my cache or cookies for an extended period of time. I have not seen it happen in a while though.

All social media searches suck.

On all of the sites, you're gonna get msgs from gay or bi, and even profiles that say they're str8.

Even fucking Facebook. When you go to the date side, and do searches, all genders end up in one of their filters.

On another site, my last 2 Hot listings have been from cross-dressers (Ts). This isn't the first time that has happened and there is nothing in my profile text that even remotely indicates any sort of interest in that. Weird.

So in case anyone missed it, North Korea is again sending volleys of balloons full of literal shit into South Korea.

The real WTF is that North Korea's behavior is routinely so ridiculous that this isn't even really newsworthy. Nothing out of character going on here again.

@VA, as is your prerogative

To most minorities growing up, especially in the 60s and 70s experienced this all the time, and either became numb to it, and wrote it off as a 'tax' or developed PTSD that lasted a lifetime, or a combination of both. It's one of the reasons for a lifetime of distrust and anger.

Windermere, FL, Us

For clarity, when I said "make it better", I meant make it better than it was before, not "make it all right". That can't usually be done.

Funly: while I appreciate the (pardon the pun) spirit of what you said, I strongly disagree with both parts of your statement.

How about when that person is sick and dying and wants to apologize to the family after fucking it up for 50 years?

Nothing says sincere like an apology from the deathbed, days before checking out.

Beaumont, TX, Us

@funlyfriend. Absolutely

"Most of us probably would prefer to give sincere apologies and try to somehow "make it better". "

Those are two different things. A years late apology can be given because it finally came home to you that you'd done something terrible and the person you are now feels badly. You can't make it better, though, since the person you did it to has had years of being the person it was done to. So, don't use apologies as potential erasers of shitty choices, because they aren't. And don't use apologies as a way of getting forgiveness or absolution.

They're still worth giving though, if you can.

Albany, NY, Us

If you believe, ask God for forgiveness. In the end that is all YOU need.

"As kids we all have done or said thing that have hurt others. The important thing is that we don't as we grow older."

agreed!

I would not lash out at a person that came to me with an apology. I would accept their apology as graciously as I could.

I know that their bullying is more about them as it was about me, just as their apology is.

Life is too short to hold grudges. However, that does not mean they would be my best buddy, just that I have to be more careful around them...

Windermere, FL, Us

Most of us probably would prefer to give sincere apologies and try to somehow "make it better". But very much like in Flatliners - who would such an apology benefit? If all it accomplishes is to open old wounds for the wronged person and relieve the one apologizing of guilt, there is no good reason to do it. Perhaps the most fitting thing is that I carry the guilt with me and not hurt them one last time just so that I can feel better.

I know there are some people I couldn't forgive and would likely react similarly to the girl from the movie if they showed up and said they were sorry.

I was in high school in the 1970s, at time in which there were really no repercussions for calling someone a fag, or a wetback, or slant eyes.

I don't remember either being a bully or being bullied, but I am sure I used some of those terms to describe my classmates.

I've used this analogy for a long time. I think most people are like that guy you see on the freeway. He's in a truck, and the bed is full of trash. There is no net over the bed, and the trash is flying out of the bed and causing accidents. But he is fiddling with his radio or some such, and never really looks in his rear view, and doesn't really care.

People in general don't really care about others. Sure, they care about their immediate circle, but the general population, no.

I'm glad you had this experience. I've done a lot of shitty things in my life, and try to make amends where I can.
