Polishing my windshield

Woodville, TX, Us

Update.
Bought a 3 part polishing system by Novus. I didnt use the #3 heavy polishing part. Also bought an assortment of foam buffing pads that were probably assembled by a 6y/o in China. Amazon can be a wonderful thing.

Moving the bike to the shade, gathering tools, making coffee, charging the drill batteries, I spent about 3 hours. The windshield isnt factory new clear, but it is immensely improved. If I spike the coffee with some whiskey and spend another hour, I could probably get buff out the remaining blemishes. However, the area I couldn't get to shows up dramatically next to the polished portion. But that would require removing the windshield.

Onward to the next project! :)

Okay..:.just a suggestion.

I understand that it depends on a lot of factors.

I just queried YouTube for "polish motorcycle windshield," and there are several videos there.

I'm sure it will turn out well for you.

I kinda like doing things myself. So this "shouldnt" be a major issue. But I have had simple projects explode quickly.

I'm sure I could find someone to polish it for me. But my first quest is that by the time I find someone, Gerry the bike there/back, I could simply install a new windshield for about $300. <shrugs>

Yeah BT. YUK, YUK! :-) I know of a couple pair of headlights I'D like to buff out! :-)
OK....back on point...

Can't you have that windscreen buff-out done at a motorcycle shop or a body shop?

I'd see if that could be reasonably ($$$, that is) done first. Time, cost of supplies, possible fuck-up(s), etc. makes "somebody-else-do-it" look attractive. If NO, try to find a YouTube "how-to" video.

I'm intrigued how BT will intertwine a flash light, a wagon and a cave.

Now that I think about polishing headlights,,, Hey baby, come here ..... lol

Yeah...there’s a flashlight, red wagon, and cave joke brewing in this thread...

On a more serious note, be sure to COMPLETELY clean all of the heavier grit/polishing compound from the work before moving to the next finer grit. And use new, completely clean polishing pads for each grit level. All it takes is a tiny bit of heavier grit contaminating your polishing pad to totally ruin the work and make it necessary to start over.

Same principle in fine woodworking when sanding. It'll look fine until you put your first coat of finish on, and then you see the ugly scratches.

Lookup "headlight restoration" on YouTube. The process is pretty much the same for your windshield.

Oh, THAT'S what you meant. I thought "Polishing My Windshield" was some sort of bizarre sexual euphemism. :)

The windshield on my bike has so many little scratches that riding into the sun makes it very difficult to see. Any added dirt makes it worse. So I have collected a stash of supplies to polish out the scratches. Replacing the windshield is a bit expensive, so I wanted to give this a try. Anyone tried this? Any hints?
