" I love Guiness. And it does taste different there..."

I love Guinness also, but have not had it in Ireland...yet.

We were supposed to go back in 2020, but some shit occurred. Now we are scheduled for June 2025.

Ireland is too cold.

I love Guiness. And it does taste different there...

They can have their Guiness.

While I do wish to visit, I have no interest in living in Ireland. But it would be a gateway to perhaps a vacation/investment property in European possessions that are part of the EU, such as the previously mentioned St. Martin.

When we went to Ireland last year, we flew into Dublin.

We got into the cab to go to the hotel, the first thing the cab driver told us "The national sport of Ireland is drinking. If drinking were an Olympic sport, we would win the gold medal every time."

Couple of days later, we went into a restaurant to have a proper Irish breakfast.

Everyone in the restaurant other than us was drinking Guiness.

BTW, if someone offers you blood pudding with your breakfast, it would be a good idea to decline...

"As we read the regulations, as long as you don't make over 100K, you don't have to declare income."

Well, we fully plan to continue making over $100k in our retirement.

When we arrived in the US in 2002 Mrs VA was immediately set upon by the IRS - where have you been? Why haven't you been filing taxes?

She was born in Texas but had not lived in the US since she was a baby in 1975. She had never had a US bank account, job, or any asset of any kind. But she did have a social security number.

We needed a tax lawyer to file 10 years of back taxes. We didn't have to pay anything to the IRS, but the process was expensive.

Do you have to learn to speak Irish to become an Irish citizen or just drink a lot?

FF (According to Wikipedia): "In 2021, 70.0% of Irish men and 34.1% of Irish women aged 15+ are considered to be hazardous drinkers."

My son has worked in the Far East for the last five years.

As we read the regulations, as long as you don't make over 100K, you don't have to declare income.

"Or continue paying taxes in the States without a work around?"

I wouldn't need a work around. I'm not a US cirizen.

What do you need to qualify for Portuguese citizenship?

My list of places to live are Thailand, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Italy is probably the most expensive on that short list.

What's the advantages? Owning property or income taxes, or what?

Will sever all financial ties to the States? Or continue paying taxes in the States without a work around?

I have Portuguese citizenship and my wife and I have discussed retiring there. It’s relatively cheap day to day but housing has gone up a lot since many have decided to move there.

Same with me.

The local Irish outreach center gave me an outline of exactly what you need and how to do it.

Let me know if you want to a copy.

Windermere, FL, Us

Thanks.

My basis for eligibility is a grandparent born in Ireland. Ordered his birth certificate today.

I have all my paperwork ready. All I need is everything notarized.

If you need any information, let me know.

Windermere, FL, Us

Fun fact: got the ball rolling on Irish (and therefore, EU) citizenship today.

Not for the reasons one might expect given recent events. But our retirement plans might include Europe, or European possessions such as St Martin, and this is just one more option we might find useful.

FF: A Japanese aircraft carrier, JS Kaga sailed into Pearl Harbor this week. The last time a Japanese aircraft carrier named Kaga "visited" Pearl Harbor was 83 years ago- on Dec. 7, 1941.

That Kaga wasn't as welcome at Pearl Harbor in 1941, and she didn't sail into Pearl Harbor, but aircraft launched from her deck flew into Pearl Harbor and dropped bombs and torpedoes on the US fleet. That Kaga was sunk 6 months later by aircraft from the USS Enterprise during the Battle of Midway.

FF2: Armament loaded onto the Kaga in 1941 for that visit to Pearl Harbor was out of Hiroshima- the site of the 1st use of an atomic weapon by one nation against another.

"kamala has knee pads"

Tigg, you asked why Molly had blocked you.

It's because of posts like this. And she is not alone.

New Orleans, LA, Us

Tigg has proven himself a misogynistic pig over and over again. I’m ashamed that I ever humored him.

Fun Fact

Tig is too chickenshit to post in the political forum where others can eviscerate him so he keeps dropping political turds in the Open forum.

“Finally i figured out it was a 0 and a 1”

In most cases it’s meant to represent an open circuit (O) versus a closed and energized circuit ( I ).

Anacortes, WA, Us

Not proud of this but, it took me forever to figure out whether O or I was the on position on the international version of on/off switches (e.g. on a chainsaw or weed whacker). Finally i figured out it was a 0 and a 1. In my defense, they could make the 1 look like 1 and not an I.
