Anyone here running the LA Marathon next month?
Running Pineapples - the daily running thread
Been running semi regularly but feeling unmotivated. 50k coming up in 12 weeks, I better step it up
After having a cervical fusion, I am no longer allowed to run as the weight of the now fused vertebrae would be too much stress on the disc below it. Walking is my thing now
Making progress. Consistent 4 milers with no pain
Aching afterwards is to be expected a little, but no pain during … now that is good news…
Ran 3 miles Saturday and 3 today. No pain doing during some aching after
Amazing - glad to hear your recovery is progressing.
Way to go!
I made it 2.2 miles Saturday, longest run since surgery, some discomfort and a little residual pain. Will see how it progresses
Congratulations!
I am probably around 2/3ds if that total.
I completed run the year (2023 miles in 2023) on October 30th, and just passed 2130 miles on my morning run. It woud be a stretch, but 2500 miles for the year is a possibilty.
Congratulations on all the things, Fokkers, and only being able to run some, wlsv.
Congrats on the PB and helping that girl
Well here is a Reader’s Digest version of my race report from 2 weeks ago. I posted this in the Happy Thoughts/Bitchfest thread in the open forum:
Finished my 3d marathon 2 weeks ago
in a personal best even though I failed on my first 2 plans for the day because of a very sore groin and upper thighs from some really rough sex the Thursday before.
BF: my time could have been better regardless of the soreness but with 3.5 miles to go I came across a young lady having a really bad day. She was in rough shape. I latched on and I talked, walked with her as she puked, got her water for her. At the finish, as she was puking crossing the line; she started to fall against the barriers. I caught her and she puked on me. A moment that her mom caught in a picture. I found her on Instagram and she is OK.
HT w/BF: even though I sacrificed my own time to help her when most other runners would have not, I am grateful for her allowing me to help her. It gave me my purpose that day and what I did was who I am. Others before me…
Maybe it’s all Happy and not really a bitchfest.
Well some miles are better than no miles. Slow and easy always finishes the race.
I ran a mile on the treadmill Wednesday at PT and 2 on the rail trail yesterday. Still too soon to be doing much but it least it's promising. I have been riding the bike a few times as well.
How is everyone doing?
That sounds like a terrible experience. I hope the next one goes better
I know I have a torn meniscus in my right knee and have been putting it off for years after a bad surgery many years ago on my left knee. It is bothering me more and more so I have an appointment with a knee surgeon Monday. Last surgery on my left knee the Dr told me 20 min operation and 2 weeks out of work. Woke up 2 hrs later with a full splint on my leg from groin to my ankle. He debrided it and also did a left lateral release on my knee cap. Out of work for almost 6 mos.
I had surgery on Tuesday. My doc planned to suture the horizontal tear in the meniscus. However when he got in there he couldn't do that because, in his words, " it's shredded" so he trimmed and cleaned it up the best he could and that's where we stand. Not sure how this fits into my running future. I have been biking quite a bit the last few months to try to stay in shape, that might be what I have to do going forth. I did a 15k trail race last Sunday. I just hiked the whole thing and did that pain free so who knows
How is the leg?
Congrats Fokkers
Been a while and checking in.
Racer a couple of times, came away with 2 top 1s and 3 first in age group.
This weekend I also raced a 18 mile race and while the objective was to go 8:12/mile I had some hiccups and wound up averaging 8:32/mile. 8:12 gets me a BQ (realistically with the cut offs I need to be around 7:50.
With 2 weeks till the Atlantic City Marathon I feel very optimistic. With pacers and if the weather is as like last year, going sub 8:12/mile is possible. Now to just enjoy the taper madness.
ouch - sorry to hear WV
OUCH!! Here is to hoping for a good recovery.
Turns out this is pretty severe. MRI shows full horizontal tear to the rear of the medial meniscus. Surgical repair with sutures. Wouldn't be able to bend knee past 90deg for 4-6 weeks, no run for 4 months. Plus a small tear in the lateral meniscus that they will fix while in there also
