Keto question

Recently introduced to two apps for references (you may know about them). Both free and available for IPhone (I’m sure other phones too). The first one is called Carb Manager it’s a green circle icon with the red letter M in the center. It’s excellent since it computes your carb intake for the day, forces you to log your meals, and let’s you see (for those of us that are visual) where you are in terms of carbs, etc. I have been using it for a month now. I started at 223 lbs (and lifted a great deal). As of today (almost a month to the day) I weighed in at 207. I stayed on track with the programs estimated weekly weight loss based on my carb intake, which averaged about 3 pounds per week. The hardest week was the first week.

Pinterest was the second sight. And I just looked up and saved Keto recipes. I was into the whole Keto philosophy since it’s only a temporary program, but rather a low carb/ good carb program. The combination of both tools really opened my eyes as to what I was eating, and often miss. The results are well worth it. However, like any program, you have to maintain a form of exercise to your comfort level.

Forgot to answer your final question...

your body will drop weight based on your caloric deficit which is that amount of calories you intake vs the amount of calories you burn. Each body is different with regard to metabolism so it is difficult to gauge the rate you will continue to drop weight.

Once your body adapts to a lower calorie diet it will adjust its metabolism accordingly. This is why with virtually every "diet" there is an initial phase of rapid weight loss and then a leveling off phase. My guess is once you get to the caloric balance you like it will drop to 1-2lbs per week for some time. The keto diet will insure that fat is being burned though and not muscle tissue which is why we see positive body changes more rapidly when following a keto plan as opposed to most other "diets".

Take care and good luck.

To the OP;
the weight you dropped initially was likely because your caloric intake had decreased yet your metabolism was still planning on having to burn the amount of calories you had been eating prior to deciding to watch your diet.

The thing about keto that i like best is that your body is forced to burn the fat it has been storing due to the lack of easy fuel (carbs). One reason there are so many folks running around with a little to a lot of fat is because carbs are a quick fuel for our bodies and they are prevalent in almost all foods available in the American diet. Thus, when we are eating a typical First World diet our bodies store any fat you take in and all the extra energy consumed (carbs) but not needed are stored as fat.

With the above in mind, once we go to a diet that has very little easy energy (carbs) for a bodies to burn it does as it is designed and begins to use its stored fuel (fat) for energy. Every body is a little different so use most macro numbers as a guideline but a good rule of thumb is to get as close to 20g of carbs per day. This is a difficult feat so don't get too upset on the days that you are closer to 50g of carbs but work hard to stay below 50 with the goal of finding quality foods that will keep you well below 50 and close to 20 per day.

Once you get below the 50g per day your body will likely go into ketosis which is the state of burning its stored fuel (fat) and the longer you keep your carb count down the faster the fat on your body will be burned as fuel. I encourage you to maintain a presence in the gym to keep your muscle tone where you need it to be and you will be surprised at the results of a high protein and fat diet will have on your body appearance in a short time.

Take care and keep us updated. Keto diets are not super easy to do and can sometimes make you feel a little sluggish at first as your body switches from its normal carbs as fuel to fats as fuel process. Get through the two or three days of that and you're golden.

If your'e taking in carbs outside of vegetables, it is unlikely your body is ever reaching a state of ketosis, which by definition means you aren't following keto plan.

You wont get a caloric deficit just by switching to a Keto diet. For males generally you should be taking in 1 gram of protein for every 1 lb of lean body mass. From there you build your carb and fat macros. If you would like more infor just email me. I have been Keto for a few years. I am also a certified nutrition coach.

Regarding caloric deficit... I think that if you do Keto right, you'll be in caloric deficit just because you are naturally more satiated by fats.

I still eat bread on Keto, but it becomes more of an egg yoke delivery system. Occasionally, I'l fry bread in bacon fat and eat that. i'll be good for six hours after that.

Keto is a great diet generally for males over 40. There are a lot of misconceptions with the Keto lifestyle though. In order to lose weight you need to be in a caloric deficit. Just going Keto will not result in weight loss unless you have your macros in line and you are in a caloric deficit. My suggestion is to find a location that has an InBody scale, get your BF% tested properly and find your lean body mass. From there you can figure out your macro breakdown and adjust your calorie intake.

Yea I try to keep my macros around that, but experimenting with a higher protein intake. Trying not to lose any muscle on this diet, just want to maintain what I do have and lose some fat. Though I did hear to much extra protein will turn into sugar.

I really don’t do Keto to lose weight. I’ve been a size 10-12-14 basically since high school. Rather, I do it because I run marathons and Keto athaletes dont bonk because your body has an infinite supply of Fat, at least compared to 18-20 miles of Glycogen.

Still, when I go on the Keto diet every spring when training starts, I lose about 10-15 lbs. I start around February and my body plate is by May.

I would say that about a pound a week. And I get slimmer and curvier. I’m never going to be a size 2 with these tits, and this ass, but I think it definitely does work as long as you stick to the plan.

I would also say I am “soft Keto” - kinda like the way women have called me “soft butch. My macros are about 20/30/50 carbs/protein/fat. I am I feel right anymore weight if I reduced carbohydrates even more but I’m not doing it for that.

For people that have been doing Keto for a while. What is your average weight lost after a couple of weeks. When I started lost weight fast. I assume to the loss of water weight. Since then it has been like a pound a week. Been on Keto diet for like a month and a half. Was wondering if it will be a pound a week average the rest of the way.
