Am I messaging wrong?

It makes sense that if they contacted you first that they already have some interest and would respond back more often to your replies. Many of your initial messages are two word messages. Maybe try leaving longer initial messages that mention something about why you like their profile and what you are interested in.

wayne it seems they only respond if they message first not if i send the first message

i am just going to assume the message feature does not work properly because all the messages i send never get a response.

Good to know - thanks for the update Wayne!

There was a time that we were blocking some phrases that spammers were using, but we removed those. I think the only thing that might still get blocked is a whole bunch of dashes in a row, such as: "------------".

I can't remember the specifics.

Maybe Wayne will wander by and remind us.

Curious as to what would be prohibited in a private message to someone else?

"Check to see if the person you are messaging is a free member. Messages to and from them go into limbo until such time as they start paying. It might be the same for people who you have blocked or have blocked you."

I've messaged a free member recently - and still see the message in my list. But they won't see it until they pay.

And I'm pretty sure you cannot even attempt to message someone if there is a block in place (no matter who created it).

Aside from the times when the messaging system was misbehaving the only time I've had messages go "poof" was if the profile was in the process of being deleted or if the message contained something prohibited by SLS.

Vintage85,

I see that you just paid. Try logging out and back in and see if you can then send the message. Sometimes you need to logout and back in for everything to update.

To the best of my knowledge.

Perhaps Wayne can comment, but I believe there is certain content that an automatic filter may catch and it deletes the message with no warning if it finds it.

I have had this happen at times. It's been behaving lately, but if I'm entering a message of any size, I'll cut/paste the message into my paste buffer just in case. It sucks having to retype a long message in again, or any message for that matter.

Relatively new to this site, so this might be operator error. I tried to send a message and as soon as I hit send it vanished, nothing in the conversation box just gone. I'm wondering if I did something wrong, if the system isn't working, or if it only shows up once the other person replies.
