I had an uncle who went for decades without paying taxes. He owed millions. The IRS put him on a payment plan, and I think they eventually wrote off a lot of the penalties. He never went to jail.
I didn't realize he'd already paid the back taxes and penalties. In that case, yes. He probably won't do any time.

Find a prosecutor who has charged and convicted a person AFTER they have paid the taxes and penalties. This is just hot air to keep the Republicans happy.
In the end, the original deal will be tweaked and agreed to. The way the original deal was set it was to stop any future issues. The judge ain't putting him in jail.
If that were the case . . . my in-laws are going to jail. From 2013 to 2022 they did not file their tax returns. They gave money to one of their kids who is a drug addict. But yes, I think some prison time is in the cards for Hunter, unless he can plea out. The IRS knows that make more money off of someone making back payments plus interest than someone sitting in prison.
At any time Joe Biden could, without restriction, pardon his son for all of these indictments. It's within his power as President. Hell, he could add Hunter to his cabinet and grant him executive privilege.
He could intervene to order DOJ to back off. He could denounce the Special Counsel and his family and spew political invective. He could call it a "witch hunt" and "election interference." He could go on MSNBC and rant about how poorly he and his family are being treated.
He has done none of those things.
