I love both halves of Kill Bill, because near perfect grindhouse and even better casting, but in general I'm not a fan of Tarantino. His movies are full of shouty men and shallow ideas. Not that either of those are bad, but definitely not my jam. It doesn't help that his work is visibly uneasy when it comes to female sexuality, which is going to bother me way more than it would bother men.

I'm a big Tarantino fan, so I fall into a different camp on pulp fiction.

That movie has some fantastic lines. When my son was a toddler, I told my wife that I felt like Vincent Vega, because every time I left the room to go to the bathroom, something horrible would happen.

I'm not a fan of Pulp Fiction either. BUTT (double t big "butt" used for emphasis) there is one line in that movie I just wanna scream after reading some Forum posts....

"ENGLISH, MOTHERFUCKER!! DO YOU SPEAK IT?!?!?!"

I never finished Bubba Ho-Tep either. It was one long joke that I found so tiresome that I didn't care how it ended. But unlike watching Pulp Fiction, I didn't feel enraged at the complete waste of time. Both of these were among the same person's favorite movies, which should have given me a clue.

I don't know that I've ever read anything by Lonsdale- I was (and am) unfamiliar with him except for what I read when researching the movie Bubba Ho-tep.

I didn't think it was a very good movie, but maybe I'll give it another shot someday.

The Southern Vampire series was the basis for True Blood, which ran for years on HBO. I couldn't watch it - waaay too gory, plus no HBO - but the books are great. And Joe Lonsdale has written way more than comic books. He's written a shit ton of short stories and the Hap and Leonard series, among others, plus he's been the editor for some really great anthologies. Not that comic books are bad, just that one of the things he's famous for is his versatility.

I'm unfamiliar with Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series, but I am familiar with the movie Bubba Ho-tep. I had to do some research on it because I couldn't watch the whole movie.

From Wiki- "Bubba Ho-Tep is a 2002 American comedy horror film written, co-produced and directed by Don Coscarelli. It stars Bruce Campbell as Sebastian Haff, a man residing in a nursing home who claims to be the real Elvis Presley. The film also stars Ossie Davis as Jack, a black man who claims to be John F. Kennedy, explaining that he was patched up after the assassination, dyed black, and abandoned."

So, I knew much of that, but I didn't know that the movie is based on an alternate history novella written by Joe R Lonsdale. The guy writes comic books.
