Ok . . .
Time to put some smack down.
First and foremost, you never responded about Keystone. You took the pussy way out and ignored it. I gave you props and said that you know a whole hell of a lot more about that business than I do and to educate me. So again . . . the walking illiterate Bonnie stated it was 110k jobs when the company, which is CANADIAN, said it was 1000 jobs. Considering the company only employs 7500, I don't know how they can fire 110k. There have been tons of studies on this pipeline about jobs. It was shown that the pipeline was a temporary jobs program. keystonexl. com/siteassets/pdfs/fact-sheets/keystone-xl-project-overview.pdf That is TC's OWN study. It looks at ancillary jobs as well to promote the pipeline. It shows 13,000 jobs. Again . . . not the 110k jobs.
Here is the MOST right leaning, pro oil you can get: uschamber. com/above-the-fold/6-reasons-why-the-keystone-xl-pipeline-america-s-national-interest
Hmm. 41k jobs, direct, indirect, etc. Which, by the way, was debunked. In fact, all of their points were found to be extremely exaggerated.
You can't scream nationalism and in the same sentence promote the risk of Americans' livelihood and living at the expense of a foreign corporation. heinonline. org/HOL/LandingPage?handle=hein.journals/lrel32&div=20&id=&page=
That imo has the best quote in it. The keystone XL is NOT in our best national interest.
Now you want to get into clothing? Ok . . . let's dance. Why did textiles leave the south and the carolinas? Reagan. Yes, the person that conservatives put on a fucking pedestal. en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Caribbean_Basin_Initiative Jobs didn't fucking go to China from the south. They went to the Caribbean and central america. See you probably don't know about the factories in the Caribbean and the impact. The largest apparel maker, again, ANOTHER CANADIAN company, Gildan has factories in Haiti. cepr. net/gildan-fruit-of-the-loom-commit-to-ensuring-that-haitian-workers-receive-minimum-wage/
But ultimately, you are arguing against capitalism and arguing for MORE government all the time arguing you are against government intervention. Capitalism is why you are sitting in front of a computer that can cost as little as a few hundred bucks. Taking advantage of the cost of labor in other counties doesn't bother you that much. You just want to bitch that US jobs are lost. Well, as I was saying in 2003. In america, a guy gets about $100 a day. In Mexico, a guy gets $100 a week. In China, a guy gets $150 a month. If labor costs are 60% of your finished goods, then you will bite the bullet and spend the cost to ship and wait 30 days on the water for the container to get to Long Beach. Want to spend $15k on the computer to have it all made here? Want to spend 4k on the iphone to have it made here?
See, if you are going to scream JOBS JOBS JOBS, where is the passion for the argument? You should be screaming and yelling at people like me. We are the ones who automate. What is automation? It is the removal of jobs. When was the last time you saw a secretary pool? Automation removed that. Automation is the removal of jobs and in capitalistic lingo, it is called efficiency. So we are more efficient. Woo hoo. What else should you be yelling at? Robotics. Robotics will remove more and more people from manufacturing. How many welders do you see in auto plants? Why are US unions fighting automation more than anything else?
I have had to fire 1000 people. It was by far the worst day of my life. I took zero joy in doing it. It tested my core values. I don't ever want to do that shit . . . again.
