Crony Capitalism

Sacramento, CA, Us

That's how pork works, and that's how the system works. Just here though.

Most important and shocking to me is that the Republicans didn't get their COVID business indemnification through. That's the one they really wanted and holy shit, Democrats actually grew a pair and blocked it.

This is a sort of thread necromancy.

How is it that the new CV19 bill is over 5000 pages?

Last time we saw a bill that thick it was the patriot act.

It seems that the republicans got to through in some weird-ass shit into this bill.

Meal deductions are back for businesses.

It is now a 10 year jail term for illegally streaming content.

It goes on and on.

How I missed this topic . . . I dunno.

@Sum

If the topic of crony capitalism is the point, yes, there is a FUCK TON of it. We live in a welfare state already. It is just corporate welfare. Our tax system has been rejiggered to have more of the revenue to the government come from the individual instead of the corporation.

If you think the bailouts were wrong back at the end of Bush, beginning of Obama, I disagree. The day that Bush came on and said he was opening up the purse strings, I said that was the right thing.

What I didn't like was that the cash went in and there was no strings attached. We, as a country, rewarded bad behavior. That was not cool.

To say that there was no benefit is far from reality and is a reach.

I often use Shelby, the senator from Alabama, as an example. He worked to get Mercedes to open a plant in Alabama. He worked with the state and Mercedes to get it opened. Together, they offered a fuck ton of tax breaks to Mercedes. Was that right? That is a loaded question and one that you can think is right or wrong. Shelby's thoughts were that by giving them the breaks that the revenue that the state and feds would get was higher than the breaks given and it took the people off welfare. So if those people whose employers were bailed out kept the employees employed, that means that they didn't jump onto the dole. Those bailouts were Shelby's mercedes.

Sum ...You lumped the Auto Bailout and the Affordable Care Act into the same sentence...Auto bailout was initiated by Bush Jr. and was paid off during Obama...Not sure what point you are attempting...The Government made a profit on the Bailout, and the bailout was paid back early...so that actually worked...when you look at the entire TARP bailout the US made a tidy $10.9 billion profit. Auto Companies were back on a profitable path FCA, GM and Ford record profits (Ford the weakest of the three)..We will see how they recover after this crisis has passed.

The Affordable Care Act...
Name the much-criticized federal program that has saved the U.S. $2.3 trillion. Hint: it starts with Affordable...before the Affordable Care Act became law, about 90 percent of the conversation and criticism of it was about coverage. Little has been said about its ability to control costs. Fast forward to December 2018, when that same office released the official tabulation of health care spending in 2017. The bottom line: cumulatively from 2010 to 2017 the ACA reduced health care spending a total of $2.3 trillion.

Ro_Ri54, you need a source to verify the bailout in 2008? Are you fucking serious? Money CNN dot com Nov 5 2008 Politifact fact checks 2012 Forbes dot com CBS feb 24 2009 As far as the rest january 6 2009 Money dot cnn dot com said the bank bailout was unnecessary and the total cost of that with the auto bailout and obamacare was $7.2 Trillion of which NONE benefitted people, just big corporations. Dont test me. I dont post about things I cant prove Get up out of your little feelings, facts dont care about your feelings

@az, yes fuck the poor. I can't afford the Lamborghini I want, so I don't drive it. I have to settle for what I can afford. If I can't afford something I want or need, I have 2 choices. Live without it or work more to get it. It's really not that hard to understand.

"Az since you gonna have a family member that won’t have insurance you are gonna step up and pay for their insurance as long as needed right?"

For my son, yeah, as long as he's still working. His fiance is out of both of her jobs, so will soon qualify for Medicaid... I'll pay for her through my income and payroll taxes.
