How I missed this topic . . . I dunno.
@Sum
If the topic of crony capitalism is the point, yes, there is a FUCK TON of it. We live in a welfare state already. It is just corporate welfare. Our tax system has been rejiggered to have more of the revenue to the government come from the individual instead of the corporation.
If you think the bailouts were wrong back at the end of Bush, beginning of Obama, I disagree. The day that Bush came on and said he was opening up the purse strings, I said that was the right thing.
What I didn't like was that the cash went in and there was no strings attached. We, as a country, rewarded bad behavior. That was not cool.
To say that there was no benefit is far from reality and is a reach.
I often use Shelby, the senator from Alabama, as an example. He worked to get Mercedes to open a plant in Alabama. He worked with the state and Mercedes to get it opened. Together, they offered a fuck ton of tax breaks to Mercedes. Was that right? That is a loaded question and one that you can think is right or wrong. Shelby's thoughts were that by giving them the breaks that the revenue that the state and feds would get was higher than the breaks given and it took the people off welfare. So if those people whose employers were bailed out kept the employees employed, that means that they didn't jump onto the dole. Those bailouts were Shelby's mercedes.
