Paying for college

Well, check with an attorney, but I think you're out of luck in terms of legal remedies. So, that means you have to rely on having a persuasive child, as hard as that sucks, if you're getting resistance from your ex.

I'm actually surprised you were able to do this on line without a comprehensive parenting plan that asked about things like that. My first marriage was just paperwork to end it, but we had no children and no joint assets, but the other one required a small fleet of attorneys at least in part for custody and support issues.

It is NOT spelled out in detail that we would split or share college expenses. We (he) did all the divorce papers online and we never appeared in court.

Me too. It was very specific and spelled out in detail that he was responsible for all expenses associated with their post high school education, including their health insurance. There's a "not limited to" clause in there too, just to tie the bow in the knot,

Not that I had any doubt he'd have done it anyway, but this way it didn't depend on his memory, his ability to stay alive, or his continuing good will.

If it Was it specific and spelled out in the decree and then you have a case

GGMM-my divorce took place in Washington State so I'm very curious about what you have to say about it. Was it very specific and spelled out that he would help pay for college, or was it generic?

Responsibility for our kids' college was part of our divorce decree. I'm not sure if anything has changed, but at the time enshrining it in what is essentially a binding contract was the only way to be certain my ex would pay for anything after their 18th birthdays.

It’s very rare to win that case. Unless specified in the divorce, financial responsibility for a minor child ends when that child turns 18 & has graduated high school.

I'm curious if anyone has heard of a parent suing the other parent (their ex) for their child's college expenses? Meaning that the one parent is forced to pay half of the college expenses. If so, did they win their case?
