I do not know what caused the fight. I can only speculate... Maybe someone sleeping with someone they shouldn't be.

nothing today but maybe tomorrow

Well that was unsatisfying. What caused it? Someone fucking somebody elses spouse? Dog peeing on their lawn. Bad taste in music?

Come on boink, dish!

Today started with a shit show with a few neighbors getting into it at 3:30AM. About 4:15AM, it settled down. The fight picked back up at 5AM and climaxed at 5:30AM with one party maliciously, twice ramming the other family's newer model Cadillac SUV. The impacts were hard, too. The police showed up about ten minutes after the driver of the ramming vehicle took off and fled.

I slept maybe an hour overnight and I am tired. This bullshit with those involved of the offending/ramming party, hopefully will now come to a head, as this has been escalating since the Fall. Hopefully there is now a warrant for arrest. Hopefully, the fucking property owners will do something and evict the guilty parties!

FUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Which is why my bottom line is that we know who is here.

We see a lot of numbers thrown around, all estimates.

We don't really have a good handle on who is here.

During Reagans amnesty I managed a restaurant in a rural part of San Diego County.

When it came time to fill out the first I-9s, I found that about 75% of my staff were undocumented.

There was a provision in the law that grandfathered current employees, so as long as they kept flipping burgers they were safe...

Interesting read. Thanks.

A few takeaways:

~ while there are a large number of overstays (700,000-900,000 per year) there does not seem to be any data on how many may have eventually left and what the net might be (I may have missed that part)

~About 20% of these overstays are from Canada and Mexico

~about 20% are from Visa Waiver Program countries. In 2022, fully 21% of overstays were from Venezuela.

The main point of the report is that there is no effective program in place to monitor or enforce visa overstays.

I concluded a long time ago that the powers that be in this country (notably conservatives who love to make hay out of the issue) know how to fix it but simply lack the will. The simple solution was enacted in the second Clinton Administration through employer on-site audits and threatened fines for labor documentation "no-match" findings. A number of large local employers where I lived at the time (Northwest Washington) were audited, no-match employees (i.e. those who gave false social security or green card numbers that did not jive with government records) were identified, and fines were threatened but suspended pending a follow up audit. No employees were arrested and no fines were actually levied. The employers, of course, furloughed the identified employees. This resulted in lot's of undocumented immigrants demonstrating publically, three large agricultural processing plants shutting down along with several large hotels. That program was rescinded within, if I recall, about a month.

@TBR,

Have never heard that statistic. Where did you find that?

My bottom line on immigration is that we need to know who is here.

A big problem that people don't talk about is that about half of undocumented people came legally but have overstayed their visas. So in addition to border control, we need a better system of keeping track of visa holders.

I agree. You can't tell me the people of Palestine didn't know about the tunnels being built. Did they tell anyone? Probably not because they are taught from birth to hate Jews.

everyone has simpathy for palestine but they let hamas rule and hamas started this shit so until hamas gives up the hostages and surrenders there will be no peace

OK, I'll bite. Call border policy politics if you want. It applies of course but, given half the chance some people will make anything about politics.

So, should we have a border policy? Should we have a border at all? Some would (and do) argue that migration without restriction is a fundamental human right. If I think this view is lacking in reality to the point of being asinine, does that make me a biggot?

I don't have a good answer but do feel that much of the reaction to the current situation is mind boggling. The best examples I could give of this are States and cities providing housing out of their budgets, and California providing free health care, for undocumented immigrants. How are people supposed to feel about this? Whether they are people who could otherwise be accommodated by subsidized housing and healthcare, or people (like me) who care about such things but see trying to solve the problems for the entire world, as opposed to the already daunting challenge of trying to solve them for our communities, as akin to trying to empty the ocean with a spoon.

@tig

There is already an entire forum dedicated to political discussion, take your bullshit there.

Or are you afraid of having to own up to your bigotry?

I really like it when women get their bras off their chest. They seem so restrictive.

It's crazy to me that even some stalwart news outlets don't seem to have anyone putting eyes on their online stories.

This is why the long lost art of proofreading is so important.

And then there's your voice to text adding a question mark? At the end of almost every sentence? And sometimes? In the middle. You know, as if it's a high school girl from somewhere in the South?

Anacortes, WA, Us

Does anyone else find it annoying that AI tries to complete words and phrases for you and often ends up (particularly on voice to text) doing so, and fucking it up, after the fact and without your input? My latest was suggesting to a business associate that they consult a friend and colleague named Dick on a particular subject. Google not only decided to change my meaning, but to get all puritan on my ass at the same time by changing my friend's name, after the fact and before I pushed send, to "D***."

Get it off my chest...

Back in November 2022, I was asked by my then former Department Manager to come to a new employer and help right the ship. In February 2023, I made the leap. After suffering a major illness seven months in that put me down for four and a half months, then making it back to work around my one year anniversary with the employer, I am done with what was asked of me to 'help right the ship.'

The alienated customers are coming back, the fires are extinguished and the business is turning a profit now. I took a hell of a beating in the righting of the ship, as I was the front-end, customer facing person. I am exhausted and am now dealing with my boss's true colors; throwing people under the bus and him claim all the hard work. I feel used.
