How about allowing emotions, most sites can technically do this.
Profile Text Decoration
Please add some new colors
That works for us, LOL.
then how about a poke button! LOL
There was a wink feature at one time and it over loaded the system.
I can agree with the wink thingy. I have often wanted to click that button!
can u add a wink icon. instead of typing a full thing i can wink to start off the convo. Can we also be able to see who has looked at our profile in case i am interested in the person/people
An afterthought...
If you're concderned about the number of characters that an html command takes up, why are you using that offbeat coding method?
"Star, star, star bold (text) star, star, star, slash bold" (Had to write it out so that it wouldn't just display) takes up 21 characters to bold and end bold. The equivelent html command "left arrow, B, right arrow (text) left arrow, slash B, right arrow" takes only 7 to perform the same function.
If you're concerned about space in the data base how do you feel about users storing text or graphics on their own web page and linking to it? That takes up no space at all, and it's not a technique that many people would use, so it shouldn't impact performance to any measurable degree.
We agree with the others who say that basic HTML functions such as font selection, marquee's, text alignment are pretty basic and would be much appreciated.
However, if you really want to make some points with your membership, and not suffer financially in the process, here's our suggestion...
Give back HTML, and graphics (animated gifs etc) , but limit the amount of disk space that members can use. Maybe give paid members more than free members as an incentive for more people to become paid members. And for those who want to get really fancy with their profiles, add some small surcharge (call it a premium membership or something) and allow them enough resources to do whatever they want.
With disk space being so cheap now, you should easily recover whatever the cost of an extra drive or two might be, and likely make a profit in the process. This seems like a win/win scenario!
Damn, I read this entire thing and dont understand one post of it except "Where's the party this weekend?"
LOL, I have enough trouble finding my caps lock so I'm not yelling at everyone.
Glad to hear that you don't notice performance issues. We work hard to stay ahead of things and keep performance at acceptable levels.
.o0O hmm i wonder if the performance issues are related to code in processes that should be replaced anyway?
Imho, its usually more effective to re-write from the ground up processes (subs, functions, templates, etc) instead of band-aid'ing problems.
I guess the other question is: What performance issues? Are you looking specifically at resources used on the servers or are these issues duplicated from a users viewpoint? These are two very different problems. As a user, I really havent seen any performance issues other than the occasional hiccup.
But hey webby, its your site man -- im just along for the ride (and the occasional backseat bitchin). I know you're always behind the 8-ball (good or bad) - and you have your priorities ..........(drumroll).................BUT the html issues ARE NOT that big of a deal to get corrected. (oops sorry did that slip out?)
Nonetheless - sls rocks.
Zig - who won the national backseat driver of the year for 3 consecutive yrs (ROFL)
For those that are happy with the additions, you're welcome.
For those that are not, very sorry. We will add more when we can, for now we are working hard on performance issues which are much more important.
we area waiting.LOL
Can someone explain the site's problem with bacic Notepad html code? It gets 8 colors w/o hexidecimal, bold, italics, font (or browser default), centering, etc, etc..........all the basics, and any browser reads it. What's the problem? Rob
Its kinda a moot point really, all this chat about hex vs decimal vs named colors. As long as the powers to be see fit to restrict CSS inside of profiles - whats the use.
<span style="font: 72pt verdana, sans-serif; color:#ff0000;">Zig </span>
I would except that I can never get the conversion (even using software) to match the decimal number. I am starting to think that they are using two different numbers or are adding digits that I don't know about yet......:-?
zo
I fight enough with having to convert hex to decimal at work when these damn cell phone manufacturers decide not to put the serial number in dec.........I don't want to do it here too......:((
lol
Zo.
Thanks NewlyWed paragraph breaks are now in.
Webmaster, we would also like to see text centering and marquee features reinstated. Also the heart decorations would be nice.
If you can find a way to reinstate the HTML format we can do it all ourselves. It definately makes the profiles more apealing
We don't normally post on these boards, however ...please allow us to climb up on the soapbox for just a minute...We personally worked very hard to use HTML codes to spruce up our profile. Anyone who had read our profile in the past would know what we mean...we made them seasonal, we had marquees, colors, paragraph breaks, and hearts. Many people commented on how they liked it. We would like to see the marquees and paragraph breaks available and also be able to use our hearts again (if thats not to much to ask) We feel it makes the profiles definately more noticable, as well as more readable....climbing down off the soapbox now....thanks for listening.
I like the new Text options - it's simple, it works - what more can you ask for?
Thanks, Administration!!!
All you bit nerds who know html, scripting, etc, etc, - congrats on your skills - but.... when the less skilled of us can make this work, quit yer bellyaching, and let us enjoy something that works - even if you do know a way using less keystrokes.
HAPPY CAMPER HERE/
This is for those who are complaining about some bitchiness in this thread.
I AM bitchin the current 'profile decoration' is lame and VERY amaturish. Go ahead check out our profile - it will stay that way until some one fixes the issues at hand.
All the trouble webby or whoever went thru to devise that childish methodology wasted time - when the EXACT SAME PROCESS could have made the use of CSS viable.
So to answer eveyone's question as to why don't the bitchin folks start their own site - I am. I have invested over $25,000 in a site and it still has about another 10k of work to be done. What does that mean? Nothng absolutely nothing. We'll still maintain our profile here.
We enjoy this site very much and are pretty much dedicated to it - but this farcass of HTML in profiles is being handled in a completely amaturish manner.
Those who dislike the current process have EVERY right to voice their opinions as well as do those who have accepted things as they are. So -- if you don't like the bitchin - dont read the thread (or at least tolerate those with differing opinions).
As far as 'the webmaster bowing down to demands' -- I don not expect him to do so - however I do expect him to provide a quality atomosphere in which to create and maintain profiles that reflect positively on its members.
Personally, if webby cant implement a more professional approach to the issue - just remove it altogether (except line breaks) and leave it be.
The process is lame - period.
Zig -- shipping webby a box of whatnots so he can throw them at me!
rdy2playwu,
You can have paragraph breaks now. Just press "ENTER" as you would here in the forums.
Well this is about the most cumbersome and backward way I have ever seen.
Have you never heard of HyperText Transfer Protocol?, just to mention one text system?
I was looking at my profile, using Mozilla as my browser. Thats why it did not show up. Thanks
