How does the Newest Matches work?

IIRC - both Newest and Random Matches show you profiles that match what YOU are looking for without taking into consideration what they are looking for.

I have noticed recently that the newest matches are mostly people not looking for single males. I don't see how a single male would get matches for couples NOT looking for single males. Curious as to how the system sorts matches...
