Accounts Compromised?

Hey, I aim to misbehave. And do so quite often. :)

@sorillo - Totally off-topic, just a pair of Browncoats nodding at your use of "gorram."

Get a crew. Get a job. Keep flyin'.

We now return you all to the regular thread.

Good point with the dedicated email address, not just for security either. I actually have several email addresses that I use for specific things, in order to keep different areas of my life separate. Personal, business, lifestyle stuff, and blog commenting (mainly for political blogs, not a good idea to mix that stuff with business or lifestyle), are the ones I use most often. Keeping the different areas of my life separate gives me a measure of control over each of them, given the social media obsession with trying to get you to publicly post every gorram thing in your life on Faceplant, Instagrammer, Twatter or whatever.

The site does allow special characters in passwords. My password has multiple special characters. Probably have to be selective about which special characters you use. Many sites avoid things like the ampersand (&) and some are also particular about the @ and % symbols. Quote marks are also frequently denied.

The most important thing you can do with this site is to use a different password from any other site. And use an email address that is not used for any other thing that is personal. The reality is that sites get compromised, no matter how good their security. You want to make sure your personal security here is as good as you can reasonably make it.

This is not the only LS site that is. Currently having this problem. Many of the ones that I filter out have profiles that are eight or more years old.

Most also have no previous posts. It is almost as if they were planted years ago. That would take far more patience and forethought than I credit to the average spammer.

It's difficult to create strong passwords here, as special characters aren't permitted.

There seem to be a ton of spam messages and postings hitting the forums from what appear to be long time paid profiles. Might want to change those passwords as a precaution?
