This rule is in place for one very basic reason. To keep bad cops in check. If a tenured officer has the ability to just retire once any type of investigation on them starts. These offices would then be above the rules and regulations of the department. Be it a vaccine or a choke hold.

Oh sure one is a criminal offense. But the officer could still receive their pension. Does it help them in prison? No. But the family doesn’t have to worry.

It's about following orders. Direct orders.

You follow orders, or get disciplined. Sometimes the discipline is showing you the door.

There's no room for insubordination in the Police Dept, Fire Dept or Military.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Saying this is about disobeying a direct order and not about the vaccine is like saying the Civil War was about states rights and not slavery.

The federal employees compensation act was changed in October to cover federal employees to have compensation if the vaccine has an adverse reaction.

Maybe these governors and mayors that are throwing out the mandates might want to change their coverage of employees also.

Screwing over a guys pension better come with a much more serious offense.

I imagine that the force would let them just retire for minor offenses, but maybe not for major offenses.

I would at least hope that it would only apply if disciplinary investigation was started "prior" to retirement papers were put in.

That's not what she said at all. In fact, she didn't say anything. It is standard CPD policy.

Here's the policy.

Any officer who disobeys an order, any order, is subject to a disciplinary investigation, which may result in consequences, up to and including termination.

If an officer retires during a disciplinary investigation, any disciplinary investigation, they may lose their retirement benefits.

This has nothing specifically do with COVID. It is policy for any discipline.
