Here comes GOP

Congress is full of morons and their king is Rand Paul.

The Chinese have been buying up US debt - in the form of Treasury bonds and bills - for decades. So have a lot of other individuals and countries. He makes it sound like the US has been showing up in Beijing with a panhandler's hat.

“lets go to the vote...let see who will put US in debt by voting no..“

Rand Paul says we borrowed money from China to aid Ukraine , I’m pretty sure we are already in debt .

"It hurts the right people..."

Yep, kids and old people, mostly. When my work focused on food security, I was constantly having to redirect the conversation - with facts no less - from welfare queens eating lobster (thanks, Reagan) to who cuts in food assistance mostly hurt, which was kids and the elderly, groups that couldn't work themselves out of poverty.

We have agricultural surpluses in this country and kids and old people should be exempt from the politicization of poverty, but here we still are, trying to remind people that food assistance programs are a net good.

Watch Iowa very closely. There is new legislation introduced by non other than Chuck Grassley grandson that would severely limit what items can be sought with SNAP benefits. If passed as introduced it will also severely limit the economic threshold for assistance eligibility. House File 3 is the Bill.

“House Speaker Pat Grassley, the lawmaker, whose grandfather is Sen. Chuck Grassley, told CBS2Iowa that the bill is needed to trim spending the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, to free up funding for other priorities.

SNAP is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a federal agency, although states bear some administrative costs for running the program for qualifying residents.

"If you look at the cost, if you want to look at a true budget impact on what things really are challenging in the budget for public education or private education, whatever it would be, it's these entitlement programs," Grassley told CBS2Iowa. "They're the ones that are growing within the budget and are putting pressure on us being able to fund other priorities."

Iowa last year had a state budget surplus of $2 billion, and the state cut its corporate tax rate from 9.8% to 8.4%, according to the Iowa Gazette. In September, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said "our fiscal health is strong" in touting the state's budget surplus.

Yet these cuts are needed? WTF?

Maybe some of the Pork subsidies should be looked at. Ol Grandpa Chuck may want to weigh in on the chip off the ol blocks legislation.

LMAO, Everything you just stated is about to be a thing of the past, was never legally put into Law in the first place. Im betting we will probably see like a 15% flat tax on goods, not food or meds. And no bullshit resale tax on anything. Just my guess.

We already know the gop’s Fair Tax Act that would abolish the national income tax, abolish the IRS and further shift the tax burden away from the wealthy is dead on arrival but I had to laugh at their spin on the national sales tax that would replace it.

All of the articles I read refer to the national income tax as being a 23% tax but that’s all smoke and mirrors.

The bill refers to the sales tax as a 23% tax because it would make up 23% of the final cost. But it’s really a 30% tax because it would add 30% to the pre-tax price. For example, a $100 product would cost $130 with the national sales tax. That’s some “trump corporation” accounting right there.

And that’s on top of your current state and local sales tax so tack on another 5-10% or more?

Of course, the maga crowd probably never read past the headline of abolishing the IRS and no more income tax. They all though they instantly became like Mickey and would pay no tax at all.

“Let’s commit to things that are achievable, not just red-meat talking points that will get you on Fox News for 4 1/2 minutes,”

~ Rep. James Comer, chairman of powerful House Oversight and Accountability Committee.

What do you know, a seemingly sane, moderate republican who is pushing to use the slim gop majority in the House to achieve real goals rather than cater to the fringe’s agenda. Too bad McCarthy stacked his committee with every nut job they have (MTG, Boebert and Gosar) who only care about whipping the maga crowd into a frenzy with the same tired lie of a stolen election, Hunter’s laptop and impeaching Biden.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and may determine whether the gop can finally put trump behind them or, if the crazies win and prop him up for another run in ‘24.

The White House apparently isn't convinced. Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House counsel’s office, said in a statement that the chairman “once said his goal was to ensure the committee’s work is ‘credible,’ yet Republicans are handing the keys of oversight to the most extreme MAGA members of the Republican caucus who promote violent rhetoric and dangerous conspiracy theories.”

And I just finished my underground bunker stocked with 25 year survival food.

Because Lord knows, P.L. Minnesota is a high priority target, what with the underwater missile bunkers, and the nuclear submarine permanently stationed in the deepest part of the lake.

A military budget cut would be a big mistake at the moment. We need to replace all the junk we are sending to Ukraine with up to date equipment. We are most likely going to need it in the near future .

"I think we need a robust military, but that doesn't mean I think the military does not need a budget cut."

I'm not going to argue that all of the military budget is well allocated. I think the relationship the Defense Department has with contractors is worryingly cozy, probably costs the US taxpayers, and doesn't always lead to the best purchasing choices relative to sound military strategy. I also think diplomacy is a critical part of national security. But so is a professional, high readiness military that is appropriately staffed and supplied. I'd also like VA services and military salaries to be generous. I'd give up a few dozen overpriced F-35s to pay for various improvements.

"Or that, you know, the US military doesn't need a budget cut"

I think we need a robust military, but that doesn't mean I think the military does not need a budget cut.

I think we would be better served with a more robust State department than we have.

It's like the stupid "Defund the police" slogan. Liberals were foolish to use that as a slogan, but the sentiment was a good one.

The military and police are good at what they do a lot of the time.

But they are not equipped to handle a lot of the things that they are asked to do.

Ok . . .

Let's put together the best Pres and Vp candidates out there!

I nominate Eric Cartman and of course Kyle, Eric needs the 'jew' on the ticket.

I suspect that Molly would nominate Marge and Lisa.

Well, maybe fictional Simpsons characters will be better the current GOP House caucus, which doesn't seem to understand that the debt limit is being breached because of things authorized by Congress or that their constitutional duties include making sure the country pays its bills. Or that, you know, the US military doesn't need a budget cut, bullshit about gold toilet seats notwithstanding.
