"The reason we do not have viable 3rd parties, again, is because people are trying to pick winners."

No, it is because we have First-Past-The-Post, Winner-Take-All district voting, without any proportional representation, preferential voting or any other system that allows the #2, let alone the #3, have any representation. Let's say everyone votes their actual preference, and we get 10% Green, 10% Libertarian, 10% other miscellaneous... and 35% or so D, and 35% or so R. Nothing would change, other than 30% of the electorate wasting their vote.

In almost every other country, if you get 2% of the vote, you get 2% of the seats. The US system is rigged for inertia, and intentionally so.

A viable multi-party system would force parties to work together versus the tribal system we have now. It would be more of a true democratic system than what we have going on now. We'd have more people working towards the middle rather than lining up on the far left and far right. Unfortunately we've been dominated here by the two main parties since the mid-1800's.

Maybe the post-Trump Republican party will split up between the far right Trumpsters and the more traditional Republicans.

The reason we do not have viable 3rd parties, again, is because people are trying to pick winners.

If more people voted their convictions, we would have viable 3rd parties.

You'd see the greens get a candidate. You'd see the libertarians get a candidate.

Then instead of coke or pepsi, you could choose Dr. Pepper or Ginger Ale.

This concept works in almost every other country but ours.

Living in California and being pretty sure which way the state will go you can afford to be idealistic and vote your convictions.

Doing it when you live in battleground state? I don't see it as a good option.

I see it like 2016... hold your nose and vote for the least worst candidate. Unfortunately that's where we are now.

Summerville, SC, Us

Never understood voting for the "3rd" choice. It's a complete waste of time, energy and you are helping someone else win that you don't like.

Lumberton, NJ, Us

I have to agree with 2much on this voting for your convictions BS. All that gets you is a win for the other side. You can add Ross Perot to the list of conviction votes wasted.

"Jo Jorgensen is not a protest vote. They are voting for their convictions. That is not a wasted vote. That is the perfect vote."

I disagree. We don't have a viable third party.

Voting for your convictions got us G.W. Bush in 2000 thanks to Ralph Nader voters.

Then it (arguably) got us Trump in 2016 thanks to Gary Johnson and Jill Stein had Democrats secured the bulk of third party voters.

Jo Jorgensen is not a protest vote. They are voting for their convictions. That is not a wasted vote. That is the perfect vote.

Our country suffers from too much of trying to pick the winner, accepting what the party puts up versus voting your convictions.

If our country elected presidents by how smart the person was, in the last ~100 years, we probably only got it right a few times. One was Bill Clinton. At least he was a Rhodes Scholar. Then you had JFK who was known to be, in my best Boston accent, wickedly smart. Then we also have . . . Jimmy Carter. The damn peanut farmer was reported to have an IQ north of 150. Hell, I think FDR was in that same neighborhood IQ wise.

Look at what the Republicans have tossed out. Reagan, the actor. Trump, the actor. Bush, Sr. the career politician. Bush, Jr. the career politician. Nixon, the criminal.

Hmm.

Fun....Edison did not invent the light bulb...his team developed the filament...which Edison took the credit for.

Who Invented the Light Bulb?..look up that story

San Luis Obispo, CA, Us

That would just be a protest vote. There's only two horses in this race.

@ffp.. have you heard Trump speak... no you haven't.. you know he is retarded... Lol

Richards, TX

Biden is not fit to be president , I think most Americans understand this . He is a Trojan horse for the Democrat party . People hate the president so bad they they are willing to vote for a shell of a man and hope for the best . Good things don’t happen that way. I am ready for the spin on his latest gaff . I bet the msm news will be changing the net but Joe says a black man invented the light bulb not Edison.

Summerville, SC, Us

You're worried about mini strokes when your guy is clearly having one Everytime he speaks. The guy is seriously fucked up mentally but yet you're voting for him. You get what you vote for...

Trump reads the same bullshit at this pressers.

Talks about the stock market before mentioning the "China Virus" and blaming Biden for the protests and violence, when Trump is the president?

We'll be over 200k dead by election time. And Trump's winning? You guys are detached from reality.
I guess we won the Vietnam War and Korean "conflict" as well...
