Yea, just like Utah and Colorado, get used to big 4 door diesel pickups roaring past you and screaming their engines as they slam on the gas at a green light, what Neanderthals..Get them in their trucks and they turn into knuckle dragging monkeys, otherwise when they are standing up on their own two feet their actually civilized....Mary Jo

I would check it out in person first, though I realize Covid makes pleasure and "cultural research" travel more difficult. I'm sure even in Idaho the club and bar scene is suppressed ATM. A few too many Rednecks in Idaho for my tastes, and that's coming from someone from the red part of Eastern Washington with a lot of Redneck friends. Let's just say Amon Bundy feels right at home there. And be sure to Google the Lieutenant Governor of Idaho.

I think I would also be "concerned" as an African American, though Boise is no Hayden Lake/Pend Orielle. In fact those regions are so significantly isolated, geographically, from one another as to be more like different States. Though I'm guessing an African American man who isn't "concerned" living anywhere in America today is probably pretty rare. My only insight into that as regards Boise comes from the son of a mixed couple of friends who went to Boise State on a football Scholarship about 18 years ago. This kid definitely identifies as African American. His experience with racial bias in the area was enough to cause him to transfer to the University of Oregon. The transfer was an issue for his parents since the Boise State scholarship was a full and unconditional scholastic scholarship, and U of O scholarship was dependent on his making the team (they have both been educators over the years). The upshot was that his discomfort with Boise was enough to supersede their preferences on his educational opportunities, and that's significant knowing these two.

On the plus side, Idaho is definitely a beautiful State if you like the outdoors and I've met many nice people there.. Good luck.

Boise is kind of a cultural oasis in a very redneck state. Right now there are riots by "militia" types over proposed mask mandates. But if you love the outdoors, wilderness, or hot springs, you'd be in a very good position.

we went through Boise on the way to Yellowstone last year - get ready to drive 80 MPH (if you are in the slow lane). We had our own car with California plates so people had great fun driving around us - but everyone was very friendly and lots of open space

Hi Kathy,
Well I have not moved yet :-) just researching my options, and this will be option "F" if others do not pan out.
But Lifestyle and my current way of living would be huge to give up. But with current times, and the volatility of the current job market, I have to consider it. But I would miss my oasis here on the island for sure!

Boise.. wow definitely apples and oranges... sort of like "us" In Georgia vs South Florida.... Yee Haw!

LOL

With the impact of Covid-19 I was on furlough for 5 months, and then recently laid off on Mon 12/7.
I am currently being recruited for a position in Boise Idaho, but I have not been to Boise since playing in Softball Tourneys in the late 80's early 90's. If you live in the area, what is your input on the town. Also what is the lifestyle activity in Idaho if any.
I have not made a decision as of yet, just looking to get a different type of feedback.

Thanks!
