Muscle Car or Motorcycle

I have quite a collection of car emblems but that one is my favorite for sure.

2MuchFun, I got a good chuckle over having a "Swinger" emblem in your garage. Found that Ebay has several emblems up for sale. I just may place an order. LOL

They used to take our beer and fireworks, never got caught with drugs.

Going with the Mopar theme, my wife had a Duster than traded it in on a 73 Challenger thank god lol. I on the other hand had a 69 Dart 440 six pack that I raced at Detroit Dragway and Woodward avenue. It was nicknamed the Camaro killer.

Back in those days the cops poured out our beers by the side of the road then stole our weed and let us go...

One of my High School buddies had a 68 Dart with a 340. The fresh air vents were just a couple doors in the kick panels, with a handle that you turned to latch them. We could fit 3 beers behind each door, and the cops never found them.

Ex father in law has a 70 swinger 340. Green auto. Busted up but he loves it. Dude drives the thing almost daily too. Gotta respect that.

See the judge convertible that just went thru ? Wow.

There was a Scamp 340 and a Swinger 340. My old parts manager had a nice Swinger 340.

They discontinued the Dodge Demon because the Christians got their panties in a wad.

I have a Swinger fender emblem on the wall in my garage. :)

A neighbor had a Plymouth Scamp (ironic right?) that was the sister car to the Dodge Dart Swinger (I’m sensing a theme here) but I don’t think they ever put the 340 in the Scamp, did they?

I’m a Ford guy but appreciated Mopar products, lots of my friends had some pretty awesome examples.

FF - When I see 340 or 360, the first thought that comes to mind is Plymouth Duster. Never had one, but they looked like fun little cars.

Omg I was drooling when that rolled out. Obviously I'm an old Mopar guy. Got the roadrunner tat to go along with it lol

The coolest car was Big Willie Robinson's Charger Daytona. Dude was a west coast street racing legend.

@2much. Yeah been catching a bit of it. Seems the rare cars are going up. I think that's why that gas monkey garage guy sold all his "normal" cars and only wants to deal in big dollar stuff. The 340 challengers and 350 Chevelle's seem to be dropping based on the one dealer I follow that's on the east coast.

I usually have to explain what an AMX is to everyone I talk to. You guys are my people.

A Rebel Machine went across the block yesterday. IIRC it went for over 100k.

I watch the auctions from time to time and think woulda, coulda, shoulda. Lol

Speaking of AMX, my boss at the gas station I worked at in HS had an AMX that he drag raced and he had an AMC Machine as his daily driver.

Hey Flip are you watching all the Mopars running through the Mecum Auction at Kissimmee today?

I told you a couple of years ago that the prices weren't going to come down because of covid... holy shitballs.

Big money has pretty much ruined the old car hobby. I'm glad I'm old enough to have been able to actually drive the crap out of them before they became too valuable to drive.

@2much, that car was definitely squirrely but fun with a stick.

@scamp, my best friend found the car but couldnt afford it so i put in (from memory) 2k and he put in 1K, we kept it at his place and we both drove it. mostly car shows and some street racing then sold it to another friend for double and he still has the car. he restored it at garden state mustang in NJ where we lived. probably worth a bit more these days.

Fun AMX Fact:

In January 1968, one month before the official introduction of the AMX model, Craig Breedlove, his wife Lee, and Ron Dykes, established fourteen United States Automobile Club (USAC) and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) certified speed records for cars of any engine size, and 106 national and international speed and endurance records for cars with less than 488 cu in (8.0 L).

Less than 20,000 two seat AMX's were built from 1968 to 1970. After that it was a trim option on the Javelin instead of a separate model.

They have a 97 inch wheelbase... only 3 inches longer than a Pinto. They can get a little bit squirrely.

I was in NJ when Delorean went under. I could have gotten a new one for $18K back then. I can remember driving past a car lot that had a bunch of them just sitting there. I kind of liked the idea of the stainless still body but from what I understand, the performance wasn't all that great for what it was.

Came across this -

"The DeLorean was marketed as a luxury sports car, but with a severely underpowered engine the car was painfully slow. It was also difficult to keep clean and the stainless steel panel required constant polishing. The design was unusual and exotic, but otherwise the car was a disaster – a nightmare on wheels."

It may have been a collectable, but didn't sound like it was a whole lot of fun to drive or own.

I've had them so long that my total investment in both cars is only about four grand.

One has a perfect body that I took down to bare metal and repainted. Never been hit or had any rust or bondo. The second one is basically a parts car but I'm sure the Roadkill guys would drive it the way it looks. I saved it from the wrecking yard in my tow truck days.

The good one is originally a 343 go pack automatic but it has a tired 390 in it. Lots of AMC V8's blew up because they have oiling issues at high RPM, so I assume that's why the original motor is gone. The parts car is a 343 four speed without the go pack.

My problem is AMC stuff costs so much to build/restore that I could make as much money selling them as is versus spending tens of thousands fixing them up first. Managing car dealerships ruined me because now I view every car in terms of profit and loss.

That plus wrenching on cars isn't as much fun as it used to be.

I almost bought a 1968 AMX instead of my Firebird. It had a 390 cu in with a 4-speed manual as I recall. A classmate in HS had one and it would light up the tires like nobodies business.

"I owned half of a 70 Boss 302 for about 10 years."

Front half or back? lol

My brother and I talked about going in half on a DeLorean when they first came out. We never pulled the trigger but he bought a used one years later and still has it.

Lol. My 69 amx is high on the list too. 343 go pack. Also back in like 1987 or so. Car was one of the cleanest cars I owned back then too. Awesome that you still got 2 of them. Good for you

"The I6 ddoes produce it's torque at a lower RPM though as far as I can tell."

That's the ticket for towing a load. It won't get you up the hill very fast but it will get you there.
