Class Description:

This 3-part series is designed for those who feel confident with single/double columns and are ready for more complexity. Classes will focus on functional rather than decorative patterns, emphasizing the techniques needed for creating stable ties and understanding how components interact. Those tying will learn how to incorporate play and body manipulation to dive deeper into creating connected, intentional scenes. Those being tied will learn assessment skills necessary to evaluate stamina and strength in a variety of positions and shapes. Upon completing this series, students will be prepared for nuanced conversations on individual risk profiles and strategic thinking on pattern construction.

In order to benefit from this class, those tying should be able to confidently use a non-collapsing single column and double column tie, use simple frictions like munters and half-hitches, and understand how and when to use forward versus reverse tension. Those being tied should be comfortable stating their rope style preferences and communicating their physical and emotional experiences while in rope.

These classes are crafted for partnered learning; attendees need to sign up in pairs. Tying pairs must commit to all classes in the series.Class dates are 3/15, 4/19, and 5/17 from 11am to 2pm.

We encourage those who have completed the More than Knots curriculum to register. Rope 101 courses offered by other instructors or organizations also qualify. Prerequisites are listed below for those who have not attended our introductory series.

Prerequisites:

  • Skilled use of a single column using a somerville bowline or a square knot.
  • Skilled use of a double column tie.
  • Skilled use of munters and half-hitches.
  • Ability to join ropes.
  • Ability to tie forward and reverse tension.
  • Awareness of basic hand checks to test nerve sensation and motor function.
  • Ability to set and assert boundaries relating to physical and emotional health.

Gear Requirements:

  • 4 to 5 hanks of rope (30ish feet in length) and 2 half lengths (15ish feet in length). We recommend fibers like hemp, jute, POSH, or nylon. Stretchy or stiff ropes (i.e. cotton, silk, coconut, paracord, or climbing rope) are not appropriate for this series.
  • Safety shears or other appropriate cutting tool
  • Water bottle
  • Notebook and writing tool (optional)
  • Snack or blanket (optional)

Expectations:

  • Contact Bight & Bind Collective if you have questions about content or prerequisites.
  • Come dressed to move in comfy, snug-fitting clothing - loose, drapey clothes can present a challenge during lessons. Avoid wires, buttons, zippers, or anything else that may feel irritating underneath the rope. Consider bringing layers as the indoor heating system can be inconsistent or loud.
  • Exercises will be floor ties done either seated, kneeling, or standing. There are padded mats and chairs available for those who would like them.
  • There are two bathrooms and a water cooler on site. Outside food is allowed.
  • Contact Subspace if you need accommodation assistance. We will do our best to create a space that facilitates learning for kinksters of all abilities and needs. The entrance can be reached via a ramp or two stairs on either side of the building.

Cost: $120 per tying pair for Premium members. $150 per tying pair for non-members. This covers all 3 separate class dates.
