What is a throuple or triad?
A throuple (or triad) is a three-person committed relationship where all three partners are romantically and/or sexually involved with each other. Distinct from a "vee" — where one person is romantic with two others who are not romantic with each other. Triads can be polyfidelitous (closed to outside partners) or open. Some triads form when a unicorn dynamic in the lifestyle gradually evolves into a committed three-person relationship — a transition that is one of the more emotionally complex moves in non-monogamy and that benefits from explicit conversation about couple privilege, time-allocation, and structure.
