Lifestyle travel is one of the most newcomer-friendly entry points into the scene — partly because you're away from home, partly because every other guest knows what you're there for. But "lifestyle vacation" covers four very different formats, each with its own price, pace, and audience. Here is how to pick.
Format one: the lifestyle cruise
A full-ship takeover where every passenger is a lifestyle couple. Bliss Cruise is the largest brand, with Original Couples Cruise and Topless Cruise running smaller themed sailings. Itineraries are typically Caribbean, 4-7 nights, US departure ports.
- Cost: $2,500-$5,000+ per couple including cabin; food included, drinks usually extra.
- Best for: immersive 24/7 environment, couples who want to be away from anyone they might know, established lifestylers.
- Watch for: harder to leave if you're not enjoying it, ship crowd skews experienced.
Format two: the adults-only lifestyle resort
The two flagship properties are Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica, and the two Desire Resorts in Mexico (Pearl and Riviera Maya). Both are clothing-optional with on-site play areas. Hedonism leans older and more "anything goes"; Desire leans newcomer-friendly and structured.
- Cost: $300-$600 per night per couple all-inclusive. A week runs $4,000-$8,500 for two.
- Best for: couples who want lifestyle and a real vacation. Easier to slow down, take a beach day, or skip a night.
- Watch for: "regular" weeks are much more vanilla than takeover weeks. Pick the right week, not just the right resort.
Format three: the hotel takeover
3-5 day events at a regular hotel that has been booked exclusively (or nearly so) for swingers. Examples: Naughty in N'Awlins (New Orleans, July), Desire Pearl Naughty, Casual Swinger Week, Naughty Events takeovers. Format blends conference, party, and play.
- Cost: $800-$1,500 per couple including the room.
- Best for: regional sampling without a long-haul flight, couples who want workshops alongside parties.
- Watch for: smaller community than a cruise or resort week.
Format four: the private rental
A villa, a Caribbean rental, or a vacation house booked by a small group of established friends. Quieter, more intimate, no "scene" — what you bring is what's there.
- Cost: wildly variable; per-couple usually lower than a takeover but with no included programming.
- Best for: established play partnerships, polycules, or 2-4 trusted couples.
- Watch for: no fallback if interpersonal chemistry is off; group selection matters more than venue.
Booking timeline
Lifestyle cruise sailings sell out 9-15 months out — book early. Desire and Hedonism takeover weeks fill 6-9 months out; regular weeks run shorter. Hotel takeovers sell tickets 3-6 months out and rooms separately. Private rentals can be last-minute.

- What's the dress-code expectation per night?
- Is play on-premise, off-premise, or both?
