Cowgirl
The female counterpart to "cowboy" — a single woman who tries to peel a man away from his primary relationship rather than play within the established dynamic. Less commonly observed than the male version but treated the same way by communities: warned, then excluded.
The cowgirl mirrors the better-known cowboy: a single woman who attaches to a couple in the lifestyle but treats the engagement as a recruiting exercise for a one-on-one relationship with the male partner rather than as play with the couple. The behaviour pattern is familiar — backchannel messages to the husband, attempts to schedule outside the couple's joint knowledge, framing meant to drive a wedge between the existing partners. Communities call it out under the same name as the male version because the dynamic is structurally identical and equally corrosive to the couple-plus-third trust model the scene depends on.
Cowgirls are observed less often than cowboys partly because the lifestyle's overall single-female participation is much smaller than its single-male participation, and partly because clubs heavily filter for unicorn-style single women interested in playing with couples on the couple's terms. The label is reserved for the deliberate pattern, not for situations where genuine attraction emerges between a third and one half of a couple — those are usually negotiated openly and renamed accordingly. Cowgirl specifically implies the deception piece.
Community response is usually swift and public: a warning to organisers and trusted couples first, then an explicit ban from clubs and private events if the behaviour repeats. Lifestyle reputation networks are dense, so the cost of being identified as a cowgirl is exclusion from the local scene rather than a single venue. The same pattern applies in poly circles, where the contrasting term poly under duress describes the couple side of the same trap.
Related Terms
- Cowboy — A single man who attempts to extract a woman from her primary relationship — pursuing her romantically and trying to break up the couple rather than play within the lifestyle's consensual frame. The term is pejorative; cowboys are blacklisted on most lifestyle sites and ejected from clubs when behaviour is reported.
- Single Female — A woman without a primary partner who attends lifestyle events on her own. Single females are usually welcomed with low or no entry fee at clubs and parties because they're scarce relative to demand. Bisexual single females looking to play with couples are commonly called "unicorns".
