New SLS Chat Room Beta

Yeah it’s a mess in there, but it is a beta so the bugs are being worked out (that’s the idea.)

Fokkers... this is unlikely. I logged onto the chat for a few minutes and it's basically people posting their Kik handle to move the chat over there. For us, it was a mess to try and use because it's basically 100+ people trying to say hi and start a convo.

<p>I've been using online services since the late 80s. Generally speaking, people who like the Forum format don't chat and chatters don't use Forums. There are people that have been here for years and use the chatrooms everyday. Some of those people are on there in the morning when I check and still on there in the evening when I check. They don't use it to meet people, so much as they use it just to hangout and socialize and chat. I don't think the ability to add rooms has been added yet. I was in there this morning and there were so many people chatting that it was hard to keep up. I have recommended that they get multiple rooms up as quickly as possible to divie up the traffic. </p>

I suspect the chat feature will be more app centric, essentially a way to keep people on here and off of places like “ki k”

I saw the "New SLS Chat Room Beta" link when I logged in so figured I'd give it a try. I connected and it was mostly a bunch of random "Happy New Year" messages scrolling by. In the upper right there appeared to be a Rooms link, but nothing happened when I clicked on it.

Maybe it's just me, but this seems like a complete waste of bandwidth. There was no way to have any sort of conversation with anyone. The people that were entering in chats were from all over the US, so it seems unlikely you could actually meet someone from chat.

Unlike the Forum where you can have topic titles and repsonses that are (mostly) related to them, this Chat stuff just comes across as drivel. Am I missing something? I'm assuming people can make and go to different Chat rooms, but as far as I could tell, this was broken in Beta.

Anyway, just wondering how many from the forums use chat rooms, and what they get out of it. Is this meant to be a LS pen pals kind of thing or is there more to it?
