New SLS Chat Room Beta

The way we use the site, I don't see real-time group chat as an important feature or one that really fits the purpose. To me, it's like adding a built in food freezer in a car. I suppose some people might use it... but not us.

I'd prefer to see the dev people spend energy on making the core features more reliable and usable. I'd suggest an overhaul of the e-mail message system (bring back real e-mail functionality), easier photo management, group events, and search abilities. These are the important parts of the site for us.

It's a step. A step in the right direction? Time will tell. Right now it feels like someone took a look at "Features" of other websites and said "We should do THAT!" instead of asking a focus group "What would you like to see us work on next?"

As far as the quality, it's Beta. It's working as far as seeing chat scroll by. The quality of chat? It's like being at a crowded club where 10 different conversations are happening at once.

I'd be interested to see if they'll implement some useful features, like being able to IM someone in a separate window, being able to see profiles in a side window, and being able to create a private room. I'd also like to see you be able to hide/highlight profiles in chat.

The interface is cleaner and more modern. However, it was rolled out with minimal features, so they will have to be reintroduced one by one.

A site makeover is much needed.

Still in the Beta...there will be individual chat rooms...they needed to do something the site was getting stagnant...this is a step in some direction, the correct direction..who knows just after a few days

Its mainly people (mostly guys) masturbating on cams or to cams, and very boring chats. Wayne is right, the forum and chat crowds are different.

With just 1 'room' and everything else closed, it's mostly 'hi' 'hi' 'hi' 'hi' with random comments in there that are hard to follow because not much scrolling. Not sure why they're still in beta mode but not surprised.

Interesting that, as the OP, I would have expected forums to flag new posts to me for this topic, but it didn't. Anyway, it sounds like chat is virtually analogous to the people that go to LS parties with no intention of playing. They are there to party and socialize only.

I guess for them, chat makes sense because they are there for the mostly inane banter/small talk. It's not like forum members are neccessarily looking to meet people, but they are looking for more like an email (message) type conversation that they can go back and reference as well as contribute to. To each their own.

Thread is way way too fast and choppy. Really useless to try and chat with anyone.

Using chrome on a computer. Connect to the chat and the list of members is empty. The screen where we imagine the chats are supposed to be displayed is blank. Enter a message where it says "say something" and it just sits there and we get a message with a bunch of HTML code at the top that says message can't be sent. Click on rooms tab and see a bunch of rooms listed with numbers we're guessing represent the number of people in the room but when we click on a room a pop up window says "coming soon" and there's a cancel button and coming soon button.

Chat isn't working.

I hope they do something about the message scroll. If you are reading previous messages and a new message is posted it jumps to the bottom making it difficult to read.

It seems to be working with edge chromium now.

I’ll give sls credit for at least getting something working. Those of us on iPads haven’t had a chat app for 3 years. They seem to be working on it so I’ll give them a chance and see what happens

What a piece of crap. Why a beta version now

We have known for a year now that flash was going away. Any beta version should have been released months ago and kinks should have been worked out then. Why wait till the last day to release this and have limited functions
