Messages again

Fort Payne, AL, Us

At two different times last night/early this morning I was exchanging messages with members real-time.

I would read a message and reply then go look for messages from other members - and find 3 or 4 from the person I had just replied to.

When I went back to the message thread the "new" messages from them would show above the message I sent - which I understood to mean they had sent those messages while I was typing my last reply.

I don't care about the profile thumbnail showing white or the message indicator not updating while I'm composing a reply. But not seeing numerous short messages from someone while trying to carry on a conversation is confusing and frustrating. By the time they see my reply I'm half a dozen messages behind and our conversation has totally lost its focus.

It's rare that I chat with someone in realtime but I will keep an eye open for that. AFAIK you had to click on Messages after you were logged in for a while to load new messages, and there isn't any audible notification either way.

When chatting with someone in real-time, it should be updating now as you chat. There is an issue with the thumbnail image showing white until you refresh, but you should see the chats instantly.

FWIW - Considering the main purpose of the site is to connect you to others, I'd think that this is basic minimum functionality that should just work. In the time that I've been on SLS, we have defintely seen things moving in the wrong direction.

LOL just looking at the forums and some favorite ones.. as we are doing this our message had 3 on it with 'birdie".. but poof they flew away once I clicked on messages..

Oh well check back later.. heading out now !

I don't mind the message indicator not updating when I'm in the Forums or Searching or whatever - it's not great but I can deal with it.

But within the past few days the updating of a message thread doesn't happen unless I go back to the main message list.

I don't really care to engage in real-time chatting but sometimes people are online at the same time I reply to their message. And they want to carry on a conversation. A week or so ago I would see their new messages immediately, while I was typing a reply to them. I don't keep up well but at least I knew I was falling behind.

Now I type a reply and then go back to the main message list to see if I have messages from anyone else and find half a dozen from the person I just replied to. And when I look at the message thread, they all appear before the message I sent - but they weren't there when I sent that message.

It's a bit frustrating.

Oh this was supposed to be fixed?? Yeah we arent seeing notifications until we open the messages tab

Us too. Many times we’re still not seeing any indication we have new messages and then we open the message tab and BAM a slew of messages. I think the one biggest improvement we all would like is the ability to toggle on a push notification so we get an alert.

For example, last night while out at club we received a message from someone off our hot date who was there too and wanted to meet. Problem was we didn’t see it until well after we had left and happened to check into the site again. A push would have buzzed my device and possibly made a connection.

We are one of the unfortunate ones as it does not work for us either. We have to constantly go back and forth in messages

They Fixed it later that day. I tested it and it worked for me and other members told me it was working for them. I just checked it again and it worked in one case and in another it was not working. I will let the developers know.

Oh BTW it has been reported and you replied 16 days ago.

Wayne the messaging is still all fucked up. I have to go out of it every time and reload messages while trying to chat with a guy. This has been going on for a while now and you said the developers were working on it. WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE FIXED!

I know why they did what they did, but this was supposed to replace the email system that still exists and is used by the Alerts. Can you imagine ANY email system where you have to log out/in or click a button to see if you received any new email since you last loggged in?

What we have is better than having the site going down every Fri and Sat when you most want it to work, but I thought this was going to be a temporary thing.

probably not mayhem since it would make to much sense to have the site working properly.

Interesting. I just got an Alert that updated in real-time, but have to click on the Messages link to see any new ones since I logged in. Is there any plan to enable real-time message polling ever again.

We’re still having the issue where new messages only tend to show up when we open the message tab. Like we log in and there’s nothing then we click messages and there’s like 5. It’s completely random so we’ve gotten in the habit of just manually checking

Seymour, TN, Us

Yes. In order for me to see the person's response to something I just wrote I have to go out of the message click on messages again and then their message will appear below what I wrote.

Gainesville, FL, Us

I just checked this and I see the other person's response immediately, as soon as they send it when we are both online and chatting. Is that what you are talking about?

So whenever I am having a chat with someone on Messages I have to go out of the chat and back into Messages each time in order to see the response. This has been happening since the site crashed a week or so ago. Can it please get fixed?
