If the IM had more functionality like the Email did I would like it. But I have to click on the profile anytime someone IM's me whereas I could see a small section of their profile with the email system, and that was very useful. Plus the 255 char is soooooo old school it's ridiculous.

IM sucks and while AFF sucks, it now sucks less than this place. Bring back email.

Now that we don't have the ability to email members, most are so quick to instant message a phone number. We don't have time to sit and instant message back and forth so they go right to giving a phone number I understand because MOST members HATE instant message. I always prefer to exchange a few emails till I get a comfort feel to expose my number or to use a number given to me even though I know I can hide or block numbers. Bring back emails it feels so much safer!

I became a paying member solely so I could send and reply to emails! Without paying clients you got no Business SMH I don't use my PHONE to do apps nor get on line for instant message or emails! Who has time to sit at a lap top or computer to instant message back and forth. Sadly this site will die a slow death like My Space!

I know this is blasphemy, but I like IM in general for real time communication with someone I already know and like.

That said, the IM implementation here isn't good. As mentioned before, no notification sound when someone IMs (which you should be able to turn off), the text area should be larger by default, no spelling correction or auto-complete, the 255 character chunk size, and having to click on that arrow versus just hitting Enter to send an IM.

Fix those things and IM would be much better, but it still will never be a good replacement for email.

The messaging system is awful. I have yet to meet a member who like it. We are quickly taking all communication off this site. Bring back email.

If I am a paying member and you now remove email option from your site that as a paying member I was able to access, I should be allowed to display an alternative email address. I do NOT use my phone to get on line nor to chat. I like many other don't have time to correspond back and forth on your painfully slow instant message service. The idiot that came up with this change should of left the building went home and tried the new system from his personal Lap top. Then fire their ass. I cant even add a topic to a support ticket nor does it let me scroll down to hit the send button to submit my issue, but perhaps that was part of their plan. I often bragged about this site it is the ONLY site I pay to belong to but that is going to change unless we are able to do emails!!!!! Christ ol mighty your common sense should tell you many many site like yahoo have eliminated instant messages so why you going backwards and not forwards. The ONLY new emails I receive are from groups I belong to advertising their parties much like just another advertisement! Most other site like yahoo have removed instant message service and just offer email, again who has time to sit and wait for the instant message I cant even video chat I get a grey screen and when other attempt to video chat me I never hear any ringing and my volume is on! SMFH

I liked it better when I could turn the IM off. I'm not one who's constantly connected, I prefer to reply to messages when I can.

Please bring back the old email system...

Seems like the messaging is now a blocking filter. It traps people we would never have contacted after they say "Hi."

We expect this site to completely die within a year or so.
This isn't what a website for swingers is.

One thing I don't like is. You cant tell if the message you sent has been opened or read. At least add that feature back please.

SLS is our only Lifestyle site. We have enjoyed meeting great people for over 10 years. Very user friendly. Until now!
We cannot comprehend why you decided to eliminate the mail function. We and our friends HATE the new message only feature. Please reinstate Mail so we can resume enjoying SLS.

I submitted a suggestion via the support inbox and it was closed without a reply. Then asked another one about why they wouldn't even give a courtesy reply and that one was closed without a reply. Regardless what anyone thinks of the change....ignoring your customers is just bad business. Maybe it doesn't bite them now but at some point it will. Businesses fail once they stop caring about their paying customers.

Not sure how long the posts referencing other websites will last. I did a compare/contrast of their closest competitor and the post was deleted, even though I had good and bad things to say about each. That means it wasn't really a plug for another service, but there is apparently concern about losing some of their network to their competitor/s.

The reality is I will continue to use both since I'm a lifetime member here. If I was a monthly paying customer, that probably wouldn't be the case. I'd likely still be a free member. Though the free access is very limited, it does let me know about when local parties occur.

Free members are pretty much a frustration for paying customers. Not sure about the app (which is something I won't use), but on a PC you cannot use IM as a free member. They are a frustration because, if you see someone nice there is no way to contact them. Unless the app changes that, there really isn't any point in having free members.

As much as people complained about free members when they had limited access, the ONLY thing that makes SLS attractive is the size of their network, and free limited access is definitely a way to expand that network. No doubt they're banking on the app to maintain/add to their network, but only SLS will know for sure if that was a success or not.

It has always been our opinion that AFF was just a pussy chasers site. Fake profiles, picture collectors, single masturbators,etc.
We are Swingers and enjoy the freedom of physical expression with other couples. Uninhibited.

SLS is particularly strong here in the Ohio River valley. SDC is pretty weak here, so a lot of ORV folk have not heard it.

SDC was our favorite, until they changed their format. It’s still pretty good, but it should be given what they charge for membership.

Okay,so I see a lot of references to AFF, but I am confused... hasn't anyone here ever heard of SDC?

I will not load an app on my phone because I do not want family or friends to see it. Even if I did, I do not want my phone ringing every time some single guy says 'hi'. 95% of IM are just single guys saying they want to fuck my wife, if they say more than 'hi'. The limited view space for IM sucks. The limited message size sucks. The history retention sucks. what is good about IM - NOTHING!

Change can be good.. Including swinger sites! Definitely not IM though.

@yeo - There is always AFF, but they too have IM. There are some settings so that you can make it appear "Busy" when you log in, whatever that means. They also have regular email so you aren't locked into IM as your only means of communication.

We find they have a decent network (at least in our neck of the woods) but it does have a lower signal to noise ratio (more fakes/flakes). They allow free accounts and those cannot supposedly view profiles, so you get people reaching out with no clue what you like. That happens here too though as some just look at pics and blast off a message. As a guess, I'd say the lion's share of ex-Craiglisters went to AFF.

It wouldn't surprise me if the AFF network is increasing due to the SLS changes and Craigslist personal going away. It really is a lot about the network regardless of how bad the user interface is, and I'm sure SLS knows that.

AFF is probably SLS's biggest competitor in a broad sense, though others have found other sites that do well for them in a specific geographic area. AFF does not offer a lifetime membership AFAIK. I find the AFF site to be more stable than SLS, especially lately. It's rarer to see AFF go down or lose functionality, but it does happen with any site at times.

Not sure if this post will stay here long as it may be viewed as a plug for AFF, but's it's really just a compare/contrast and my cut at the pluses/minuses of AFF and SLS.

Prefer e-mails

SLS has been turned from a classy , relatively sophisticated swing site to one where men beg me by instant messaging to turn on video chat so they can masturbate and have me watch. I hate the changes and if there were another site I would leave immediately .
