I brought this up a couple years ago. You should still be able to block someone if they've blocked you. Otherwise it is only one way protection.
BLOCK should mean BLOCK across the site both ways
I should say that those other sites let me block someone even if they have already blocked me. That’s just basic internet security and privacy. I shouldn’t have to beg someone to open up their profile so i can get to the block button to block them. It’s ludicrous.
I realize this site doesn't give a fuck about people who paid a one time lifetime membership, but holy fuck.
EVERY OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE that has a BLOCK feature means that NEITHER party can see the other. It is completely disingenuous for a supposed web designer to argue otherwise.
AND this is NOT public. WAYNE. You must be logged in to use the forums.
The fix for this would be to put a “block” button under everyone’s avatar that works even if they have you blocked, or one of you is mass-blocking a group like single males. I would love to block some people, but I can’t because they have single males group-blocked, and the block button is on their profile. It’s a ridiculous system. But none of the sites I’m on that are like SLS that have forums allow you to block on the forums in the same way you block people from seeing your profile.
blocking gives users more agency than reporting users for suspension or banning. Blocking is immediate, user-achieved, and not dependent on another entity’s approval. It is more efficient than reporting users for suspension or banning, because it does not require either the time or effort that goes into deciding the results of these reports. Neither does blocking depend on the blocked user having violated one of the terms of use on the site, such as rules against hate speech. If I can block another user for any personal reason whatsoever, I have much greater control over my social life online.
The privacy achieved with blocking on social media goes in two directions: blocking keeps one’s own posts from being viewed by another user, and it also prevents the other user from contacting or interacting with the person who blocked them. In preventing another person from viewing one’s posts, a person can limit who accesses their personal information, thoughts, photos, and social interactions with other users. Even when posts are public, for users who aren’t public figures acting in a public capacity, the ability to retain some privacy when desired is valuable. Blocking is essential for achieving this privacy.
Blocking is arguably the most effective platform moderation feature. It gives users full control over who and what content they interact with on social media. Blocking is not only a desirable moderation feature; it is a responsible business practice requirement.
“ How do you even follow a forum conversation when you block so many?”
My point exactly. Mass-blocking of singles or couples would break the forums completely.
Yes but isnt life better ... ours is !LOL
Why even post in the forums if you want to block one of the three profile types completely? How do you even follow a forum conversation when you block so many?
And yeah - those are rhetorical questions since the OP cannot see my post because they blocked me ages ago. I can only ever see posts made by them that start a new thread.
The only way I could see this work is to create a set of forum categories that are automatically blocked for single men, alongside the regular forums.
One annoying aspect of Block is that you need to get to someone's profile in order to block them. You can't do that if they block you first. They always have the option of removing the block to see what they want, then reblocking you. It would be nice if there was a Block option under Tools as well as on a profile page.
As far as mass blocking, I thought having no interest in a group essentially did that, but perhaps not for forums?
If our purpose is to destroy any remaining functionality or usability in the forums, mass blocking forum users would be the most effective way to achieve that purpose. It's already difficult to follow some of the topics in the forums because there's no reply or reply with quote function, so the forums are full of replies that don't have any traceable link to the comment they're replying to. Now introduce mass-blocking, and big chunks of the comments will just disappear for other users. It would be chaos.
I just made it easy for them. I blocked them and their crazy off the wall posts.
Why does it matter if the can see you in the forums and hot dates? They still cannot look at details on your profile or contact you.
PLEASE FIX the BLOCK command so that the block applies site-wide. Else, it is not the protection is is supposed to be. I blocked all single male profiles, but they can still see me in the forums, and I can't block them from there because I already blocked ALL single men. So , I can't get into their profile to block them in the forum, and anybody can still see my posts. PLEASE fix this important INTERNET PRIVACY AND SAFETY measure. If I block, they should not see me, nor I them,AT ALL. This is a STANDARD feature in ANY other social networking site.
