Wayne, you are right to suggest that we should submit a ticket when the messaging system isn’t working. I’ll be submitting my ticket soon because I’ve had trouble for years getting the system to:

 • allow a conversation between more than two profiles
 • send an appropriate picture to someone who asks “what are you wearing now”
 • allow me to check my messages without first having to log in and navigate menus
 • check my message history from five years ago
 • send a video
 • include an emoji in a message

That’s the company line DB… it’s on your end or something you’re doing. Don’t get me wrong, Kik is crap nowadays, but at the very least you get notifications when you have a message. I’m shocked that this site still has issues from YEARS ago that persist to this day.

Yep.

We are all just making it up.

If you are having an issue with messages, submit a ticket with the details. On rare occasions, I have seen the system drop a message that you type when you select "Send". Whenever I have seen this, if you just type the message again, it will work. There are no significant issues that I have seen with the message system and hundreds of thousands of our customers have used it without issue.

As a staff member of SLS, I have not been able to substantiate any of these claims posted in the forums regarding private messages.

I actually refused to use KIK for a long time, simply because I didn’t want all the bullshit that came with it. But then came the time that the fabulous SLS messenger system decided to not want to play, the afternoon of the day I was supposed to be meeting someone.

The end result was that we never met, and I was accused of being a no show.

ItalianG,

I completely agree. SLS does not have a robust messaging service. No one wants to rely on an unreliable system.

Kik has known problems (bots, security, etc), but it is reliable. I’ve been half way around the world and been able to have a Kik conversation with no delay between sending and receiving messages.
SLS should be thankful that their members have alternate means of communication.

While Kik has gotten bad as in loaded with bots & fakes (just as many fakes/flakes on SLS though) it still works and is superior to the IM here.

People are suggesting it because the IM here is so bad. It eats messages and sends them into limbo, you don’t get real time notifications of a message, you can’t group chat with all four people if couples. Kik is a good go between for anonymity until comfortable enough to share phone numbers. If SLS offered a functional and reliable messaging system people wouldn’t be moving off site.

SLS messaging seems to always fail at the absolute worst time. So if I get to the point where it looks like I may be meeting someone, I will suggest switching to KIK.

We’re not a big fan of Kik, but the SLS messaging can be flakey. The disappearing message problem is worse some days than others, when it starts happening, we get into the habit of copying our message, then when it vanishes we paste it back in and try again. If we do decide to move to an alternate messaging system, it’s typically just text messages.

The messaging system within SLS is "wonky".

Sometimes, it takes a message as typed.
Sometimes, an innocent word will cause a send failure.
URLs are a problem at the forum, less so in messaging.

By far the most frustrating aspect of SLS messaging is the send-and-[whatever you typed vaporized]. This seems to be due to connection-loss of connection-reconnection problems.

Experienced posters using SLS messaging always "Highlight and Copy" before hitting submit. If the message vaporizes, it's often necessary to log out, log back in, and then find you can paste and send.

There is no legitimate reason for my messages to be deleted, Wayne, based on evidence, including that if I either retype or, on bad days am using cut/paste because it's done it more than once, the message goes through. So, no, it's not free members or members with a pending deletion. It's a glitch in the system and it's been mentioned multiple times by multiple people.

I don’t see the chat feature in the iOS app. And, for couples, it is hard to tell who is speaking in the message system. So moving the conversation to a different platform seems reasonable. When it is appropriate seems subjective. I wonder how Kik came to be the alternative here instead of the hundreds of similar apps?

Oh well. Really appreciate the replies! Everyone have a safe and stimulating weekend!

I just told you there are legitimate reasons, so I am not sure why you would say there are not. For example, if you have your profile hidden from free members and you send a free member a message, your message will disappear as soon as you select, "Send" and will not be sent. If the other profile is pending deletion or has been flagged by the site, your message will not be sent and will disappear.

There is no legitimate reason, Wayne. Messages disappearing is a relatively new problem and it is not a problem that has to do with user error. It's been reported by numerous people numerous times

If someone immediately wants you to move to Kik, be very wary. If you've been chatting for awhile and/or have experienced the regular delights of composing your SLS message only to have it disappear the moment you hit send, the request to move to a more reliable platform, which Kik is, will probably make more sense.

Many here use Kik and other messaging platforms to ease communications and fill the gaps of the IM system here.

For "us" way too many fakes flakes and time wasters on SLS .. now some like KIK but for us... we now IM, set up a chat for ALL parties if a couple and meet its that simple..

Meeting in person gets us to the next stage or an immediate sorry we are not a match and ,move on! We are NOT here for games many play!

Portage, WI, Us

Brand new members here. Question: Should messages asking if we have Kik be considered suspicious? Is Kik even a good app?

Everything else in profile seems legit so they might just be forward.
