Using kik is a bad idea

Hmmmmm... argue with your customers and refuse to listen?

The rest of us apologize that our clients are having issues, listen to what they say, and try to rectify the situation. We don't put up signs and tell people they don't have a ticket.

Another analogy - part of my job involves designing and creating analytical software models for clients. If a model I build does not fit a particular purpose clients need in the future, I either adapt the model to that purpose or provide a model they can customize on their own. If I ever said, "No, the model will stay as it is, you're just not being compliant", they'd first be shocked I had that attitude, and second go find another advisor who better understands their needs and customer service. In this case, SLS is not adapting and kik is one alternative to fill a particular gap in SLS capability.

Yes, you can put up "do not walk on the grass signs".
However. We do not pay to walk through public parks. Lets look at theme parks. Pennsylvania has several options. The shittiest ones go out of business while others thrive. Why? Because no one wants to pay for crappy rides with crappy features. Some states have only one (or none) them parks so they don't really have many options. 1 park with old rides stay in business. Not because it has the latest and greatest rides. Quite the opposite. Great food and reasonable prices.

Guess what? LS theme parks are popping up all over the place. Better features, better reliability and more up to date. I've seen posts on multiple swinger fb groups of people only using the wwbsite to sign up for local club events/check out which local club has the better party. They've given up on the rest of the features.

Putting up more "stay off the grass" signs only hurts your park. A hazard warning sign. Sure, I get it. But you're not losing business or $$ for people taking their conversation to kik. If anything, it makes your website more user friendly.

Even the ruts in the grass exists because the people who put the in walkway did not have the foresight to predict where people would want to walk, and they paved the wrong areas. Does that sound familiar?

Why address a fictional analogy instead of HTTP ERROR 404? Issues can’t be corrected until there is admission of the problems.

The biggest reason SLS can't replace other alternatives is reliability. SLS has had issues when you most need it, because that's when you see more people using it. I'm speculating that the system can't handle the increased load at times.

The first time someone gets burned by SLS is all it takes to drive people to alternatives, like KIK as an example. Once they make that move, there is little reason for them to come back.

It happens in entrances to buildings too and is the result of poor design that does not meet the needs of people."</span></p>

<p><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:open sans,sans-serif; font-size:14px">Great analogy! I disagree with your conclusion. Here is my viewpoint: </span></p>

<p><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:open sans,sans-serif; font-size:14px">The people creating their own paths are non-complient. They are not altering their behavior to comply with the layout of the park. They are trying to take short-cuts. No, it does not work fine. Here is what we got this morning: "HTTP ERROR 404"

Forum won't let me post the full message but we all know what that is. This is why users go to alternate platforms to chat.

Denial that a problem exists brings back to memory the Iraqi information minister, Sahhaf. For those who did not see him on TV during the first gulf war, google his name up and watch the you tube videos. You will get a good laugh.

@GGMM

Well, that's a pretty incredibly good analogy with the paths example. Next time we want to communicate with the other couple we missed yesterday due to SLS message notice delay, we'll find another method - kik or just trade phone numbers since we're comfortable with them at this point.

"Why risk a critucal 3 hour window on an unreliable website?"

Sensible people won't and that's why all the assertions that you can do everything you want within the SLS framework are silly.

Wayne, have you ever been in a park with pathways where it's clear people are instead creating their own paths and wearing ruts in the grass instead of using the pathways? It happens in entrances to buildings too and is the result of poor design that does not meet the needs of people.

This site is so reliably unreliable that I suspect most people respond the same way I do, which isn't to create a support ticket but to just work around the site issues by moving ongoing conversations with people I am interested in meeting to kik. For people I'm not interested in meeting, this site is fine because timeliness is irrelevant and I don't care about reliability issues then.

As to the bogeyman of SLS not being able to help with situations because conversations occur elsewhere between SLS members, what could you do anyway? Produce conversations in aid of prosecution? So could kik. Terminate the user account? So can kik and I can block people there or here.

I'm sure it's frustrating when you think you have a good service and a good product and people aren't using it, but SLS, while useful, has too many reliability issues and many of us are going to create our own paths to compensate.

A lot of people don't bother with tickets. Several issies have arisen, it's posted here that you guys are working on it. So why send one?

I've sent 1, 2? Follow-ups, still nothing. I just figured with no follow up "we can't find it".
No answer is an answer. I'm aware, you can't fix something you don't know is broken. But with people complaining and you're aware, I'm not going to send a ticket. Post after post it is seemingly obvious that this site will never 100% work 100% of the time. Why risk a critucal 3 hour window on an unreliable website?

Spring, TX, Us

@Wayne

I believe we did submit a ticket. The profiles were not deleted, as we were able to message them when we tried at a later date. The issue has come up again from time to time after that. One time we just tried clicking "message" several times - the first few times got the blank message and finally it came up correctly and we were able to send the message to the user and got a response.

I'm disappointed this issue, which multiple regular users on this post have experienced is being passed off as nothing by certain administrators. I would at least expect recognition of the issue and communication that work is being done to resolve it.

Spring, TX, Us

Well here I am having said we have no need to go off site in a previous post on this topic, only to have the SLS Message notification somehow not work and we missed meeting another couple at a club last night. I messaged them day before yesterday and even tho they returned the message, that red circle with the number in it on the Messages tab saying we have a new message didn't light up and so I didn't check messages. We didn't have plans for the evening and definitely would have met them there had we known. Turns out they went and met a few other couples and had a great time. We missed out dang it! Maybe it was user error, but I don't think so.

BTW, the blank message thing happens to us too sometimes. You click "message" on the member profile or "Who's On" list and the new message box comes up. But the member name at the top says something like "undefined" and the message doesn't go through to the member. Tested it a few times just now and it is working right now.

Even people on Tinder, Hinge, etc, will move to a messaging app ASAP because that is what plugged in internet users talk to people on ( at least those in my age range). I really don't see what the controversy here is, and there isn't really a good argument for not using some other app you already use to better confirm someone is a couple, but also get a feel for their personalities.

If something bad happened here, I seriously doubt you could help us to the extent necessary to solve the problem. I wouldn't expect you too, either. If anyone relies on SLS for safety backup, they're fools. That is up to each and every individual person.

In addition to agreeing with other users on the poor performance of the messaging system (yes, they DON'T load, Wayne), and lack of notifications, and slow speed, etc. The real issue is about control! SLS wants users to pay, so free members can't communicate, rendering their free membership worthless. Yet they count them in the membership statistics when advertising. They want to record our conversations, and not allow sending of photos through messages for FOSTA CYA reasons.

Morris, Alabama

Just a thought. Maybe fix the messaging system here to make it compete with kik or practicality any other messaging app. All that needs to be done is improve reliability to 99.9 %. No crashes, updates, bug fixes, etc on the weekends. Notify the recipient of new messages instantly whether they are logged in or not. Have the ability to send photos or short videos instantly, without approval, regardless of the content ( G rated face pics to full on XXX videos). Have the ability to set up chat groups which is very useful for planning parties, or just being able to chat with both halves of couple.

Those are just a few suggestions to start with. Kik or any other messaging app is just a good backup too, whether people like it or not. Just read back on all the complaints about messaging here failing on the weekends when members are trying to finalize plans, have hot dates posted, parties or events planned, etc..

Wayne, it does load blank the first time every time. The bug is on your end and many have mentioned it before. Nice work on the vid chat upgrade, btw.

With kik, do the pic hunters use it? Yes. Do they use SLS? Yes. Do they use any means available to them? Yes

We have actually had the majority of our communications on Kik go straight into a 4 way chat with a couple. With singles it goes into a three way conversation. The pic hunters are pretty simple to weed out as well as the cam only folks.

You are not getting it. I'm not bitching. Kik is like salt and pepper on a steak. One compliments the other.

so there is a new feature where I can take a selfie of me and my wife and instantly send to someone else. I'll have to dig around for that option.

<p>This site has been designed for this purpose. Meeting swingers, communicating and sharing pictures. You can do all that here perfectly fine. Also, as I stated, I do not work for KIK and have no access to KIK. When you take your conversations off this site, we can no longer help you if the other person is a bad person. It is also a way that free members use to not pay us, so that does cost the company money. </p>
