CPAP

Our best friend had APNEA for years, let to them sleeping in separate bedrooms at different ends of the house. He retired at 54 from a great job, better retirement, lucky guy. Within 3 mos, he suffered a massive debilitating stroke, lost speech, ability to swallow, unaided dressing, walking, bathroom stuff..horrible indeed...struggled for 2 years, then he was put on BiPap with O2 supplement. Within 3 mos he had recovered 90%....so if you SNORE BAD, it's time to get checked out, and just use the damn hose!

@BeachBabe...re CPAP taping.

We responded to the facebook feed and took the introductory offer from HostageTape dot com Really. The tapes are mildly pricey--figure $0.50 each--but work very well for us. We use nasal masks/pillows with our ResMed systems, which told us that we were having "mask seal"problems. What was happening was that we were (naturally) opening our moths a bit while asleep so...lots of air going in the nose came out the mouth.

The Hostagetapes look weird but they absolutely get/got the job done. Two observations.

  1. Once applied, you absolutely will not be able to vocalize words until the tape is removed. While you can push it off with your tongue, it's meant to stay affixed. Any conversation or even "Alexa, turn off the bedroom light" has to happen prior to putting on the tape. We find it easier to tape first, then put on the headgear, then connect to the CPAP machine, etc.
  1. Sexy, it's not. Unless you have some mild bondage fun, in which case waking up with the tape still on can be interesting.....

Been using. CPAP do 10+ years. I have slowed down drinking alcohol and the weight is coming off. Stopping the drinking started two months, what a difference.

I have a plug for the cell phone charging port so I can use it in the RV.

Fundamental, what are you taping with? I had the exact same issue and stopped using. Now I am lucky to get six hours of sleep. The full face mask would wake me every time I turned. It was no good either.

A CPAP revelation.
We both use nasal masks. We both had dry mouth and airleaks.
Both of us now use mouth taping. It is less weird than it sounds, and it has made all the difference.
Bonus: some interesting role play when one of us is still taped and the other is not....

Days following evenings without my cpap are a challenge. Usually require a midday nap to get through the day.

Are use mine any time I’m going to be sleeping

I used to wear a CPAP. It did make a difference. After quitting alcohol, and losing weight (Over30 pounds) I didn't need it any more. I'm glad, it wasn't fun wearing that at night.

Hilarious "Dr Amen a snake oil" a neurosurgeon who is against regular DRs with facts from MRI scans , thousands of actual brain scans before and after including well known people and everyday people.. blood work, eating right, exercising, losing weight.. .. okay then enjoy your life and CPAP.. your narrow thinking says it all!

Diagnosed with sleep apnea when I returned from the Middle East. I use my cpap nightly. Hard to fall asleep without it!

@Mr & Mrs FL, Enjoy life and sex. Age changes things but a CPAP should not affect how you live life at all. (Except you have to wear the damn thing while you sleep.)

Laona, WI, Us

Dr. RonKathy. First, I already use non-RX supplements for brain health. Have done all the research I needed to do. Your Dr. Amen appears to me to be just another snake oil salesman. Secondly, all of our play-friends are openminded. None have had an issue with CPAP. Some of them have their own issues, we are all mature enough to be able to work around such issues. We live at PVR in GA 7-8 months of the year and camp at lifestyle campgrounds most of the summer up here in the north country, and none of our play-friends have had issue with my CPAP.

KIVID after looking at what you have definitely DR Amen would work for you.. research him and check his factual MRI shows with proven results.. it does work wonders and we have seen it first hand.

Most of his shows are on public airways.

Good luck

Dr Amen works for all.. and NO it was a general comment about weight and CPAP issues.. it is a fact and losing weight does help many issues and eating right and staying healthy exercising daily.

We are Big advocates of all vs the CPAP and RX methods most all traditional DRs prescribe too. If the method works for anyone good..
we are not sleeping with any CPAP as we still wake up and play weekly !

I had a MRI 2 years ago, and was told I had excessive amount of white matter hyperintensities (WMH).

@RonKathy, If you were refering to me, I was 6'3" 195 lbs, when diagnosed 26 years ago. Skinny as a rail. Snored heavily all my life. Exercised and ate right and gained 30 lbs of muscle over the years. Did not help the design structure of my throat and esophagus I was probably born with.

FYI After being diagnosed with moderate Sleep Apnea 2 years ago, tried the dental device option first to as an alternative to CPAP. Worked like a charm and cut events to less than 3/hour (very mild). Got used to it in a short time and achieved a good restful sleep pattern. FYI The device is manufactured by ProSomnus Sleep Technologies.

Try a bed which you can control up / down movement and all due respect lose weight, workout, eat right etc etc .. works wonders!

I did several years ago ( back then..over 248 ) and now its a lifestyle choice, gym, cardio and weights several to 5 times a week, sports play, eating right, and plenty of healthy vitamins, pre and pro biotics has worked for me.

CPAP was/is lifesaving and necessary in our case as well, nearly 20 years since diagnosis. It has not affected play directly, but it has indirectly by affecting stay over options.

Laona, WI, Us

@FL. . . Male half here, been on CPAP the last 26 years. Before diagnosis had a little brain damage from extremely low blood/oxygen levels. CPAP therapy saved my life back then. Use it every night and I don't nap, can't sleep without it and it has not changed play habits much at all. They are portable so it goes where I go.

Tried a CPAP machine for a period of time. Tried different masks and settings. Can not deal with restriction of the hose. Any time I would need to move in bed to get more comfortable the damn hose pulling on me would wake me up and I actually got worse sleep with it. They can keep the CPAP machine!

Jester here, yes, I use it for naps and every night. It has not effected our play time our our playing with others.

There is no "health forum" and it's mostly a senior topic anyway.

Both Mrs. FL and I have recently been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and been prescribed CPAP therapy. We are glad we went through the sleep studies and find that with the CPAP treatment, we awaken far more refreshed and have more energy through the day.

We are interested in hearing from others who currently use CPAP--do you also use it for naps? (How) has CPAP changed your play habits, either with each other or with others? (What we are asking is whether the change in your sleep cycles has changed your preferred time of day for sex.) Do you use CPAP religiously every night?

Curious about others' experiences.
