@5

Thanks.

I knew it was 60 something percent :)

It's funny. The recent conversation about when was America great got me thinking about something I said to my wife the other day. I told her that if I ran for office, I'd have on the platform something that would piss the fuck out of a LOT of people. I'd get rid of single use plastic bottles. Want to go back in time when America was CLEANER :) go back to when there was no plastic bottles. The only plastic for drinks in the grocery store was gallon jugs. Soda came in 32 ounce glass bottles! You paid a deposit on the bottle. It forced reuse.

Is that a good enough time for when America was great? :)

You're the only one that saw anything slightly referring to it. Please show what words had anything to do with your latest unfounded accusation.

Also, show me where I said we can use these and become 100% free of the need/use of fossil fuels.

As always, you're here to stir up shit.

@5

You hit on something that I think a lot of people have not thought of.

Oil will be in use for a LONG ass time. It is used in plastic. It is used in lubrication for machinery. It is used for more than just gasoline.

However, what I think you are misleading on is the amount of oil used for things other than transportation related issues. Hopefully some one can get more accurate usage here, but iirc it is 60 to 70% that is used for transportation.

I appreciate that you mentioned we need to evolve. I think there is a philosophical discussion there :) If there is no incentive or punishment will there be a change? I don't think so. As you may be aware, CA is passing a law regarding diesel trucks in the state. They are giving NINETEEN years to get trucks to zero emission and all you hear is whining. NINETEEN FUCKING YEARS. What number is acceptable? To go to the JandE angle . . . how do you negotiate when the other side doesn't want to?

“The sun, water and wind are energy sources and can be reused with solar panels, dams and windmills. You're probably using nuclear energy and don't even know it.”

Hmmm. And what fossil fuels are necessary to build the technology that you speak of? Can the ‘renewable sources be tapped without the need for fossil fuels? Can you use solar to make concrete? Steel? Asphalt? Rubber? Glass? Food? Tanks?

Do we need to evolve? Of course we do but not at the peril of 3 generations.

Why do you also ALWAYS push race? Always

Whatever higher education institution that you spent money with owes you a refund with interest. Your high school teachers failed as well.

The sun, water and wind are energy sources and can be reused with solar panels, dams and windmills. You're probably using nuclear energy and don't even know it.

When we no longer have sunlight and water, recharging your phone and tablet won't matter.

You didn't even spell energy correctly.

@Wayne

Thanks for that.

That makes perfect sense. The first video from the GRU guy and the last video from the Mayor hit the nail on the head.

eia. gov/dnav/ng/hist/rngwhhdm.htm

That shows exactly what they are talking about.

I like how the mayor said, "We spent 3.6mm on NatGas one month and a year later spent over 16mm on NatGas." DUH. That is why everyone's bills are going up.

But the math is still the math. GRU's rates are CHEAPER than FPL's rates. GRU has a better credit rating than Duke and FPL. About 1/2 of their debt is that biomass facility that is renewable that makes rates cheaper even with the debt load.

It was interesting to hear that you guys have the same issues we have here with meter readers. We have estimated bills as well. We can get blindsided where 2 months are estimated. They are rolling out digital meters that will remove the meter reader issue, but that is a cap ex number as well. That shit ain't free :(

If you think that DeSantis's takeover will lower the rates . . . ROFL. Utilities are tied to the commodity it takes to create energy.

Good point Wayne..Why? Because your state has to rebuild its grid with every storm..they spen no money to improve it...wages and materials continue to rise..guess what so will the monthly bill...thats rocket science...wind, water and the sun never increase in price

Why do I care about Florida?

Interestingly for reasons that seam antithetical to the MAGA movement: my family. I am 6th generation Floridian. I am a whisp away from being back in Florida. My wife is from there. Her parents and siblings live there. Her parents are dying and she is considering wanting to be closer to them than a 2 hour drive to an airport, a 5 hour flight and a 90 minute drive to them. She would be ok with just a 90 minute drive. My mother and aunts live there. Considering there is a financial concern with my wife's family, this does impact me.

Ever think about the Mexican's that come to work in the US and then go to the convenience store for Western Union to send all the money back to Mexico? How about someone working in CA and doing something similar but to FL?

And another reason to concern myself? Because the person doing all of this is a person who looks to be running for president of the US.

“How do we harness the power of the wind and the sun? We use physical devices that we have created using technology. Those use resources that are not renewable. It requires resources to make those devices and maintain them. They will fail and will have to be replaced.”

Seriously?

Please tell me you’re just busting my balls?

Santa Barbara, CA, Us

@5 love ya buddy, but you are getting data from a funky source. Read what they wrote. It is national usage of kWh * rate. That is very misleading because not everyone uses the same amount of energy. In Florida, life without AC is pretty much death. Life without AC in CA is common.

eia. gov/electricity/sales_revenue_price/pdf/table5_a.pdf

That is the data that TBR quoted. That is from the bill, not from the average consumption times a rate.

But . . .

YES, CA has some fucking high rates. Well, all I know is SoCal Edison. And they have odd rates because it is based on daily allotment. Where I live I get less in a daily allotment than Palm Springs. In fact, I get the most, and Palm Springs the least! I know that sounds counter intuitive, but that is because they are pushing for solar! Solar works in Palm Springs. Not so much here :( I think every house in Palm Springs is capable, whereas here, it is probably 30-40%.

@Wayne

I just did the math. 1200 kWh usage with FPL is 197.08 a month. With GRU is is 172.9. I did not put in the state taxes, those are just the fees specific to the utility.

@Wayne

"How do we harness the power of the wind and the sun? We use physical devices that we have created using technology. Those use resources that are not renewable. It requires resources to make those devices and maintain them. They will fail and will have to be replaced"

You are missing the definition of renewable energy source. You are talking about devices that convert energy.

FPL takes down the nuclear plants to work on.

FPL takes down lines to work on them.

FPL takes down the NatGas plants to work on them.

FPL takes down the NatGas pipelines that transport the gas.

NatGas is a finite resource.

Nuclear is not a finite resource, just a risky one.

Wind is infinite. Solar is infinite with an asterisk.

It's amazing that you complain about this, but didn't complain when GRU went from different sources in the past to what it is today. Hmm.

Santa Barbara, CA, Us

@Wayne

Ok, fair enough. You have bought into FPL/Duke Energy lobbying situation. Got to love the argument that GRU is 1.8bn in debt. How much debt is FPL running? The answer is 109 billion. It is interesting that FPL doesn't give too much shit about using what the state motto is . . . SUNSHINE state. Only 5% is solar. Hmm. Amazingly they like to use NatGas. I wonder why . . . I wonder if it has to do with that they fucking own NatGas pipelines!

You are being hoodwinked Wayne.

We talked about GRU's rates before. GRU's rates are cheap. They are cheaper than FPL. They are cheaper than SoCal Edison.

But what amazes me is that people buy into this shit. DeSantis is taking over a municipalities service. Then he is going to sell it to a commercial party. WTF? How are you ok with this? What is next? He takes over water and sewage? All the privatization of public services have shown to be a shitshow. The CITY that you guys bitch the most about DID THIS! They fucking despise doing it. That city? Chicago. So you guys want to be like Chicago?

TBR gets his numbers from Jon Pierre…

On average, California residents spend about $220 per month on electricity. That adds up to $2,640 per year. That's 26% higher than the national average electric bill of $2,098.
