Well I’m going to change it up here just a bit and get back on the original topic. Well at least the title.

"People should get paid what the Employer thinks and the employee agree to. Not what the government bean counter says."

Nice philosophical argument, but I prefer to live in the real world and examine the effects of policy.

Economics has these things called feedback loops. The more money people have, the more they spend, and since one person's spending is another's income, the more money spent the more money people earn, the more they have, the more they spend... positive feedback loop.

OR, the less money people earn, the less they have, the less they spend, the less they earn.... negative feedback loop.

Without government mandated minimum wage st least keeping up with inflation, we enter the negative feedback loop and go into depression. We had a dozen of those in the 100 years prior to minimum wage.

With government mandated minimum wage, we have not had a single depression in the 85 years.

Now, it is not minimum wage alone that has prevented the radical booms and busts of the libertarian era. A whole host of liberal counter-cyclical economic policies have collectively worked to stabilize the economy, but minimum wage is one of those important policies.

Go read a book about the economy of the 1800s. It may just change your mind about how great things are without government regulations.

"Rolling back Trump's tax simplification would give me a big tax cut, thanks."

Same here. The sooner that scam is repealed the better.

AZ upped our minimum wage to $10. Despite predictions of doom and glum by opponents, prior to covid, each increase in minimum wage increased employment as people that didn't bother to work at the lower pay found it worthwhile to get a job at higher minimum wage. Those people then spent the extra income into the economy, creating the demand that feeds back into more jobs.

Economic growth doesn't come from putting more money into the hands of people that already have more money than they can spend. Economic growth comes from putting more money into the hands of people that will spend.

AZ, in our market, very few work at minimum wages...kind of a moot point anywhere...
But you nailed it when you suggest they pit all that back into the actual local economy

"Don't complain when your job is just outright eliminated because the minimum wage is too high and your employer can no longer afford to stay open or even pay you."

One-dimensional, microeconomic thinking about macroeconomic situation.

Monimum wage has been around for over 80 years in the USA and around the world. Raised dozens of times in the USA and hundreds of times around the world. Raising the minimum wage DOES NOT increase unemployment.

Raising the minimum wage puts more money into the hands of those most likely to spend, increasing demand, CREATING jobs.

Sure, if you push the minimum wage too high, it can cause some cost-push inflation, but studies have shown that level is when minimum wage get to within about half the median wage of full time workers. With median wage of full time at about $24 an hour, we should be able to go to $12 with virtually no cost-push inflation and $15 with inflation in the Fed's target range.

Be honest. Raising the minimum wage doesn't cause unemployment. It hurts profits of the companies that employee minimum wage workers but sell goods and services to higher wage people.

"All of you who voted for Biden better own it for the next four years if he wins (it's looking like he may). · I don't want to hear you complain about your taxes going up "

Actually, my taxes went up significantly under Trump due to elimination of exemptions, deductions (such as home office) and credits (such as education tax credits).

Rolling back Trump's tax simplification would give me a big tax cut, thanks.

WASHINGTON — Lawyers working to reunite migrant families separated by the Trump administration before and during its "zero tolerance" policy at the border now believe the number of separated children for whom they have not been able to find parents is 666, higher than they told a federal judge last month, according to an email obtained by NBC News.

About one third of those children were under 5 at the time of the separation, according to a source familiar with the data.

In the email, Steven Herzog, the attorney leading efforts to reunite the families, explains that the number is higher because the new group includes those "for whom the government did not provide any phone number." Previously, the lawyers said they could not find the parents of 545 children after they had tried to make contact but had been unsuccessful.

Herzog said in the email to Justice Department attorneys representing the Trump administration, "we would appreciate the government providing any available updated contact information, or other information that may be helpful in establishing contact for all 666 of these parents."

"your taxes going up"

Was gonna happen already because the tax cuts that Trump pushed were only TEMPORARY.

"gas prices doubling."

And that would be bad for US companies how? And considering that the 'free market' sets the price for oil . . . Will gas taxes go up? Talk to YOUR state.

"when your health insurance cost goes up even further than they already are." In the last 30 years I have yet to see my premium decrease, regardless who was in the WH.

"you bring home less on your paycheck because you're being penalized for climate justice." WTF does that mean?

"Don't complain when you lose your job because 11 million illegal immigrants suddenly become legal and your employer decides to hire someone at a lower wage." So now you want wage control? And are these illegals doing MY work? That is a boogeyman argument.

"Don't complain when your job is just outright eliminated because the minimum wage is too high and your employer can no longer afford to stay open or even pay you." Another bullshit argument that contradicts the previous demand. There has only been GDP growth when min wage goes up.

"Don't complain when your automotive job is eliminated because it's shipped back to China." Ok, then complain when the car costs 2x more? And BTW, most cars sold in the US are made in the US or in Canada/Mexico.

"Don't complain when interest rates double maybe triple and homes/automobiles aren’t as affordable as they used to be." So interest rates at a historic low, are now going to double and still be at a low? Hmm. I remember in 1999 buying a house and happy as fuck that I got a note for 7.75% 15yr. Low-interest rates have inflated the costs of housing. Low-interest rates have killed savers.

"Don't complain when your stocks and 401k take a hit." Sorry to burst your bubble. After EVERY democratic president in the last 70 years, the dow has increased. Can't say the same for the Republicans.

"Don't complain when we are locked into more endless wars in the middle east." Stop having Republicans start them!

It's obvious that you cut and pasted that rant. It is too literate for you.

I'm just going to leave this right here. All of you who voted for Biden better own it for the next four years if he wins (it's looking like he may). · I don't want to hear you complain about your taxes going up or gas prices doubling. · I don't want you to complain when your health insurance cost goes up even further than they already are. · Don't complain when you bring home less on your paycheck because you're being penalized for climate justice. · Don't complain when you lose your job because 11 million illegal immigrants suddenly become legal and your employer decides to hire someone at a lower wage. · Don't complain when your job is just outright eliminated because the minimum wage is too high and your employer can no longer afford to stay open or even pay you. · Don't complain when your automotive job is eliminated because it's shipped back to China. · Don't complain when interest rates double maybe triple and homes/automobiles aren’t as affordable as they used to be. · Don't complain when your stocks and 401k take a hit. · Don't complain when we are locked into more endless wars in the middle east. · Don't complain when your otherwise safe communities are overrun by crime and start resembling Chicago. · Don't complain when the educational system goes down. You obviously didn't vote for your paycheck or your future. You voted your feelings. Unfortunately, facts don't care about your feelings and you will soon (sadly) learn this under a Biden/Harris administration.   This is not a debate anymore. Just own it.   Also, don't complain when Biden is taken out of office & Harris takes over and the US becomes a socialist country. Think about that.

USA Military protection is NOT free.

It may not have a $ attached to it, but it means giving up some freedoms to be protected by the US Military.

It is also a quid pro quo.

The US spent a FUCK TON of money to fight the spread of communism around the world. From a population standpoint, we failed. You have the largest country in the world under a hybrid communistic system. You have the 9th most populated country in the world under communism. HMM.

Thornton, CO, Us

fun, All these Nations that run Socialism and those that approve it forget that but for the United States providing a National Defense from other Socialist Nations their Socialism would FAIL. THINK ABOUT IT. U S A, military protection is free.

@AZ , a very good friend of ours was on Dutch parliament and a mayor of a small village . I once asked him what do people like about Socialism . He said quote . To not give money to the politicians , but to give it to the people .....I say not give money to politicians let me keep it . But anyhow he went on to say the Netherlands are not true socialism . One of the engineers that worked for me grew up in Romania . He grew up under Communism . He said everyone was poor so nobody ever knew what wealth was. When he was 17 he was scheduled to go to a maritime school for his further education. But he had a cousin who was from Hungary
Who was fighting the govt. They never physically harmed his cousin but did things like destroy the road in front of his cousins house for drainage repair , never got fixed. But my engineer was instead sent to another school to be reset. He always said he did nothing wrong. Today he laughs about it , he used to be able to ride trains all over the Soviet Union for free. He went to the greatest museums in Eastern Europe. He came to the US , went to the UH , today he is retired . He told me one time he owns 30 patents on Packers and special latches ( for oil patch ) . He loves the US.

When they raise the min. wage everything goes up for those workers, all the money ends up going to the wealthy people who will raise Apt. rents, food prices ect, just like what happened 2 to 3 years ago....workers never get ahead.....Mary Jo

"Most people don't answer questions posted in jest..."

Really? Those are usually the best to reply to, because they are frequently based on incorrect but widely held ideas.

Like Trump actually having built a wall on the border to keep illegal immigrants out.... which didn't happen.
