"Yesterday, I spent some quality time reading about the National Radio Quiet Zone, which I'd never heard of before."

I too, have never heard of this.

"This morning, it's been the Cheers characters, which I probably watched a couple dozen times. I remember Carla the best (and her character is probably why I didn't watch more)."

That's 23 more times that I watched the show.

The only recent shows that I made an effort to watch all the episodes were "Blacklist", and "Blue Bloods."

"Berry achieved more widespread fame playing the character Freddie "Rerun" Stubbs on the ABC sitcom What's Happening!!, which aired from 1976 to 1979 as he was in his mid 20s. The role was originally set for a skinny and white actor. The character was called Rerun sobriquet because he continuously repeated all of his classes during summer school."

This is from Fred Berry's wikipedia page. Did you plagiarize your way thru Uni of Florida as well or just paraphrase it, the same way as your corny mix drops?

But do carry on about our height similarities....

You and Archie Bunker are both 5'11 to 6'...... Both assholes, right?

Pretty sure the movies I'd pick would be the entertaining ones rather than the ones I love for reasons other than their entertainment value. So, Escape From New York would make the cut and All Quiet on the Western Front would not, even though it's magnificent. For music, I'd pick Nirvana MTV Unplugged and the chief criterion for the rest would be whether it prompted dancing and that would depend on the day I was doing the picking. For books, I'd have a hellish time picking five and have no idea what would determine my picks. Maybe a couple of the books I reread every few years and then some bricks full of ideas. Regardless, I'd regret my choices.

I'm weird about television. I can only regularly watch things that are low in conflict (British Baking Show) or highly predictable (NCIS and Criminal Minds).

@ea, probably won't bring any movies, definitely no music (don't really listen to it) and definitely no books unless it's how to get off an deserted island.

Hamilton, AL, Us

Agreed. But at least the stuff on the list I made was decent entertainment. I may find 1-3 movies a year I like. As for TV shows, Yellowstone & it's spin offs are good. The game of thrones, Spartacus & black sails were ok.

On the other side of that comment, cocaine is at an all time low... the war on drugs is killing it..

Writers and directors don't determine what shows and movies get made.

Yes, I am aware that those shows are on.

Guess what . . .

Fucking CONSERVATIVE thinking business peeps! Trying to rehash shit that had run it's course. :)

There is a show that I like, but haven't watched it in a few seasons, and I enjoyed the depth of the writing: Billions. I saw the first 3 (4?) seasons. It is now on season 7. I used to watch it on my Ipad while on a treadmill or stationary bike. Great fucking writing. I can watch a lot of what Aaron Ross Sorkin creates. I can also watch anything that Wes Anderson does.

It's funny, there is a movie theater not too far from me, Hitchcock Cinema. You will never see a Marvel movie there. They tend to get a different set of films. My wife doesn't like it when we go there. She knows that she is going to have to ask me a few times wtf she just watched. We saw Lucy there, and my wife was like, WTF was that? Then we saw the French Dispatch and she had a different, WTF was that statement :) She didn't know me when I read The Silmarillion. That book to me was a WTF and I had to take notes while reading it. I didn't do too well with the introduction of what seemed like a hundred characters in the first 20 pages. She has heard me talk about that and she feels that some of her WTFs are similar.

If you really want to learn about people, pose this question: You are stranded on an island for the rest of your life, you can bring 5 movies, 5 books, 5 albums. What are you bringing? Generally, people will have problems with the books and skip it :) Then you will hear a wide range of movies with them trying to narrow it down.

I am relatively easy: Do the Right Thing - Spike Lee movie. Great movie in that there is no right answer, it is all about perspective. Spartacus with Kirk Douglas. Great movie! I would be happy with any of these Mel Brooks movies: Blazing Saddles, History of the World, Spaceballs. Probably the Red Violin. Not sure why, but every time I watch that movie, I feel compelled to hug my kid. Then I am not sure about the fifth. To show you how 'different' I am . . . I used to have a helluva entertainment system. It was the best way ever to get a babysitter. I had over 1000 laser discs. Babysitters were NEVER an issue because of that library. In that library, I had quite a few Criterion collection movies. What I was doing was having a movie night with my family and mother once a week. We'd watch a Criterion movie. I no longer do that. I tend to watch a couple a year. I really want to watch Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator. That movie is 83 years old and the final speech is very powerful and moving. charliechaplin. com/en/articles/29-the-final-speech-from-the-great-dictator-

It is next on my list.

We met Cliff (John Ratzenberger) one night at a swinger party . It was late the bar was closed so we invited him and his totally hot blond bombshell to the party . Unfortunately they declined.

@Good

IIRC, Cliff lived with his mother.

I liked the Fraiser and Lillith characters. The sarcasm and sharpness of the tongue were compelling to watch.

Yeah, Norm was the beer loving sarcastic one and Cliff was the knows everything about everything one.

“It doesn’t seem fair, does it, Norm? That I should have so much knowledge when there are people in the world that have to go to bed stupid every night?”

-Cliff Clavin

@8inch

I guess you would need to have the knowledge to understand why I asked if you were Rerun.

Here, let me help you.

Both of you are roughly the same height.

Both of you were known to have to repeat a subject because you didn't understand it the first or second time.

"And you are Rerun?"

Of all the 39 Black ppl that have ever been on TV, he's who I remind you of? Not Rodger, Mr T., Bryant Gumble or his brother....

why did you chose Rerun? Yeah, I'm dancing and clogging up every topic in the forum. Oh, that would be you, right?

Norm was the big, laid back guy, everyone liked him.

Cliff was the long winded one, walking encyclopedia/Internet.

To be fair, if I could, there are times I could use charts, graphs, and timelines. Because words aren't always enough.

I don't remember Cheers all that well, but wasn't Norm the sarcastic one? ;)

I'd probably just post a picture of a T-Shirt I had 30 years ago. I will do my best to try and paint the picture in your head.

It was a wireframe sketch of an old CRT style TV. It had the knobs and the rabbit ears that were common from the 1970s.

Inside the 'screen' section of the TV was a person drawn as a stick man, smiling.

Underneath the TV image was a statement, "Literature for the illiterate."

Or I'd just post a link to a very powerful song's lyrics. Disposable Heroes of Hypocrisy - Television, the drug of the nation.

I think that song came out 91-93 range. And you may even know a little about the radio station that I heard it on. WKPX - Piper High School's radio station. It was awesome to have high school kids spin records. Not sure if you could pick up the signal in Lake Worth, but it came from Sunrise, just west of Lauderhill.

"Sucks that this site doesn't facilitate the use of photos, illustrations and graphs."

Then every one of EROTIC AMAZON'S posts would include 27 eight-by-ten color glossy photographs,
with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one,
explaining what each one was.

@8inch

It is funny to me and my friend of nearly 20 years. He has often stated that his goal in life is to come work for me and do all the landscaping. I have often stated that my goal in life is to find him asleep drinking cerveza after lunch. One day while talking to him, he had to put me on hold, came back 3 minutes later and I said, "Was it la migra?" He laughed his ass off. He threatened to send the chupacabra to attack me.

It's all context.

This is a guy that I helped put through college. This is a guy who went to Auburn and got a degree an engineering degree. This is a friend, that unfortunately, probably will not be alive to make it to 50. He has diabetes, has a colostomy bag, and is on dialysis. Humor keeps him going. I will miss him once he is gone.
