First off, the crux of the bill is there and will be pushed through.

Secondly, think about this . . . what prompted this change? Was there some issue that required new legislation? Was that issue real or perceived?

To me, this is a circle jerk of bullshit that Moral Majority assholes have had wet dreams about for a long time. The judgemental, purported non-judgemental assholes now have an ally who will pander for their votes. There is a reason why South Florida is so much different than North Florida. There is a reason why the South starts in Orlando and goes north.

That is one of those things that sounds like it makes a lot of sense on paper, but the reality is that it doesn't. I am not talking specifically about YOU, but the generic YOU :) You pay taxes. You don't use the service. You feel you should not pay the taxes for the service(s) that you do not use. This is where the disconnect occurs. You may not get a direct benefit of those services, but you sure as fuck get an indirect benefit of those services. Let's use the school situation as an example. Let's say that my property taxes, the section for education is 5k a year. I don't have kids in school. That can either be because I do not have kids, kids are too young for school, kids are too old for school, kids are in private school. Do I get the benefit of those taxes directly? NO. Indirectly, HELL YEAH. By funding schools, I am lowering crime. By funding schools, I am funding the next SCOTUS. By funding schools, I am funding the betterment of society. By funding schools, I am lowering unemployment. It goes on and on.

Did I ever say I support the bill in it”s current form? Nope, that is why I said it is just a bill at this point and yet people act as though it were already law!

Paragraph 3. Yes, the k-3 is there, but it is the addition of vagueness. When they state, "Age appropriate."

Paragraph 7. Sounds like a 'speedy' trial. Considering I went to a high school in Broward with 5000+ students, that is not gonna work.

Paragraph 7 is fucking scary. That paragraph allows a parent to sue the school for damages if they don't get their way. Think this through . . . this is the same as business' just settling out of court. Why? Because it is cheaper in the long run than to go to trial. This is going to be abused like there is no fucking tomorrow. Schools will be targets by attorneys and YOUR taxes will pay the bills. That is VERY misleading.

The bill has NOT become a law. It has passed the house and is in the Senate. DeSantis has commented NUMEROUS times that he wants the bill on his desk to sign.

What was the impetus? That is a different question. That probably has a LOT of impetus. A lot of people, want it.

The bill has not been signed into law, and therefore at best it is nothing more than that a bill at this point.

Perhaps they will rework it to remove subjective wordings as you mentioned, but I will stand by my statement that for kindergarten to 3 rd graders… it is unacceptable to teach that material without the parents knowledge.

Read the bill closely. There is a phrase in there that messes things up. The phrase is, "Age appropriate." The bill allows parents to sue the school if they feel that the material being taught is NOT age appropriate.

That is a HUGE issue with the bill.

The bill is not only a huge anti-gay bill, but it is strictly authoritarian and giving way too much power to a parent over the masses. This bill will allow the Westboro churches of the world to enroll a kid in that school, then sue, regardless of age.
