I think there are really big differences between the summer of love and these rioters. These rioters were trying to undermine our democracy and the constitution, all to keep their orange god in power and based on a BIG LIE that the election was stolen. The summer of love folks were using their constitutional right to protest the perceived failings in society at the time, such as the Vietnam war and racial inequality, neither of which were lies. There was a war they were against, and there was HUGE racial inequality at that time.

Again, I don't know how many times anyone needs to say this, Trump had a $200M war chest, an army of lawyers and investigators, and full access to the court system to try to legally overturn the results of the election. He could not come up with an IOTA of evidence of fraud, which is why he lost 60+ court cases except one inconsequential one. And there were tons of audits and investigations. Let's take Georgia for example. They had 3 audits, going all the way to do a full hand recount. They have a Republican sec'y of state who voted for Trump, and 23 investigators on their staff, who are probably 80% Republican. They've told Trump they investigated everything that Trump claimed and found no evidence for the level of fraud that would be required to change to results of the election. Even if Trump could overturn Ga, he lost 6 battleground states, and would have had to overturn at minimum 3 of them. By Trump's standards, he lost by a landslide (Trump 2016 and Biden 2020 had identical electoral college votes).

Weird comment... They did overtake the Capitol, and they did kill at least one police officer. The truth is there could very well have been more killing if not for the police, who were able to evacuate all the Congressional folk and staff out of there just before the mob arrived, sometimes just seconds before. It was all there in the prosecutor's presentation, and we all saw the videos of the loonies in charge of the place. What's missing in those videos was Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, and all the other Congressional people, who were in hiding by that time. Imagine what would have happened to Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, or AOC if they were caught. I suspect they might have only roughed up Mike, but Nancy and AOC would not have stood a chance, if my interactions with my local Trump ass-lickers is any indication (highly uncivil and violent people).
