now big bad HFT is a Solar expert...

Danbury, CT, Us

I look at it like they just want to use my roof ,lol.
We pay more in delivery fees than we do in usage .At the moment anyway.

Thornton, CO, Us

The Solar sales people come to our house. When I get done with them about the relationship of commercial electric demand meters and solar panels on a roof they walk away with nothing to say. You solar energy people figure out the relationship of commercial electric demand meters and solar panels. You will see there is no free lunch. The utility monopoly always wins with the help of the governments. When asked I will explain it.

Danbury, CT, Us

My neighbor sells solar , my house with the roof facing east and west would not be that efficient , but I am just amazed at how many people come to my house and try to sell me solar and say I have the perfect roof for it .

That is what Trump did to follow up what Obama did. I don't have a problem with it and think it is fair. He did the same thing that people are doing now with Covid checks. It is significantly easier to just do a blanket number than it is to investigate everyone individually. I just wish Trump would not have gone on the lowest end number, perhaps a middle number instead.

This beckons a conversation that very few people pay attention to. They all scream free market, but that is the most ignorant statement there is. The second you have a government, that second the free market ends. Governments are there to protect THEIR citizens. They are not there to truly allow free trade.

Since WW1 our country took an approach that they wanted to control the world by controlling the food that people eat. We pushed VERY hard to have agriculture be our major export. To do that, we incentivized the fuck out of farmers. And to this date, we subsidize the fuck out of them. China got a little smarter than us and decided to become the country where almost all the medicines are made. So you can argue, which is more important, but we both have each other by the balls. China has subsidized labor hugely. They have provided capital to entrepreneurs and established some regulations. They realize that having employed people is best for their country. HINT: So do we. China pushed onto the employer a burden. If you are going to pay low ass wages, you have to give the worker room and board. Yup, it's 3 squares a day and a place to live. This solves part of the homeless problem doesn't it :) Those two situations show that we do not have free markets and there are a LOT more.

China seeing a huge boom in solar, subsidized companies until 2020. At least they didn't keep it permanent. That program, I believe, was a 10 year program.

Someone mentioned the Obama administration losing money from a loan to a solar cell producer, and yeah, that one is mostly because China dumped their gov't subsidized solar cells on the global market, making it impossible for any private producers (Germany's solar cell businesses were also nearly wiped out, and at the time they had one of the largest solar cell ecosystems). Anyway, that's just more BS from the Tea Party do-nothing screw the country republicans at the time. Here's the total story, which we now know from hindsight. That loan program was part of a DOE loan program to fund high risk companies that were promising but which private investors wouldn't take on. They actually stopped making loans not long after all the sh*t the Republicans flung around over the Solyndra failure. A few years later, lo and behold, the gov't actually made money on the program from all the other companies that paid back their loans. They were in the black! Making money for the taxpayers! Even with the Solyndra loss. And the companies they funded, many of them were large clean energy producing plants, and they are producing clean energy today, doing good things for society.

Want to know another company that got the same size gov't loan as Solyndra from that same program (somewhere around $500M)? Tesla! That was way before Tesla was even public, and they were just trying to get off the ground. Now, I mentioned the money the gov't made from this DOE clean energy loan program. That didn't include all the... I'm not even sure how many hundreds of billions Tesla is worth now, but that's wealth generated for American society.
That's stuff the gov't should be doing, stepping in to do good where private capital can't or won't.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now... I think I've said enough.

"Solar and electric car batteries last 4 to 5 years"

LOL

My mom bought her Prius in 2005.

It's got over 150,000 miles on it.

Still on the original batteries.

Well let’s get Biden on it , create solar manufacturing like the companies that went bankrupt in the Obama years !

At this point, climate change doesn't even matter. Renewables (solar and wind, etc) have been getting cheaper faster than fossil fuels, and already are more cost effective in many areas, and will soon be cheaper in most of the economy. So if you are a capitalist, you should be in support of better (since it doesn't pollute), cheaper energy. As for cars, electric cars can rock if done right! Teslas go 0-60 in 2 seconds! The batteries usually have a 8 year/100K mi warranty, which is very good (better?) compared to combustion engines.

So whatever you think about climate change, renewables are just becoming a better option than fossil fuels, and supporting it is just capitalism! They're not quite there yet, but they are at the cusp. I'm glad we had one of the two political parties in the US supporting this over the past couple of decades, but it's never too late to join the bandwagon and support good ideas. China is rapidly building up a strong presence in this green economy of the future, and they'll eat our lunch unless we wake up and support our companies in this fight! Do you really want to buy all your windmills, solar cells, and electric cars from China in the future?

Danbury, CT, Us

300,000 in Portland due to a snow storm , our Electrical Distribution Infrastructure is shot , I know of 1 building that has 2 electric car chargers in the parking lot , of course one is reserved for the Attorney that installed it .

Solar and electric car batteries last 4 to 5 years , one expensive tune up , hazardous waste ?? Not too sure if the complete battery is recycled .

Lithium is one of the reasons we where in Afghanistan .

So when we plug in that car to charge where does the power come from , not all electric generating plants are hydroelectric !

so ask Houston how that "Global Warming" is doing for them with those green windmills!

It was always called Climate Change.

This started from a paper written in 1975. The title of the paper?

Climate Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?

The author was studying the oceans. Wallace Smith Broecker was the author.

But again, here we are with the same irony. The people who do not believe that invisible to THEIR eyes emissions are causing issues because they can't see it, are the same ones that believe in an invisible, never been seen, god.

"The Keystone is a safer short cut "

For who?

Again, this is a Canadian company wanting to use US laws to claim imminent domain to build a pipeline to transport oil from Canada to ultimately get to LA.

I am confused as to how people can hate China for 'taking advantage' of the US, but here is a Canadian company and people are arguing for it? What happened to America FIRST?

Want to change the narrative? It is REALLY simple.

Let the pipleline be built and OWNED by either the US (preferably) or a US company. The canadian company can 'connect' at the border. They are charged a per gallon fee to use it. You know . . . OMG . . . just like a TOLL ROAD! This way you would have either the gov or a company liable for any and all issues as well as maintaining it. When we no longer want it, we turn it off.

But the imminent domain issue is HUGE. For all the 2a supporters who often use the 'slippery slope' line, let me use it here. If the FEDERAL government can go into a state and force the state to use imminent domain to take property from people, what is next? Want a prison in your backyard? Want a nuclear plant in your backyard? All the NIMBY's are gonna come out then. But wait, that Nuclear Plant will employ about 500 to 1000 people. That is way more than the 35 that Keystone will employ.

“Global Warming” was not exactly easy to prove to fit the narrative , now it’s called “Climate Change”

It's conservative companies that use Fox and right wing media to put out grievances.

The viewers repeat the cries and complaints. These viewers don't realize they're being used to carry water/complaints without having skin in the game.

Danbury, CT, Us

The Keystone is a safer short cut , from what I have heard there are already roughly 80 older pipelines in existence.

The wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine !

Santa Barbara, CA, Us

There were a couple of solar companies that BKd during Obama.

Just like there were a bunch of drywall companies that BKd under Bush.

China was subsidizing solar panels and drywall and selling to the US are below the cost to make.

There were a bunch of farms in Mexico that BKd when Nafta came out because the US subsidizes corn to sell at prices that are cheaper than to grow.

The pipeline argument is still way off. There is NOTHING that compels the US to give Canadian companies access to our roads or rails to ship oil. Why should we build a pipeline and risk OUR country for a Canadian company's gain? That boggles my mind why people want to do that. The argument that they will transport it to processors in LA regardless is a red herring.

Danbury, CT, Us

Didn’t the Obama era solar companies go bankrupt ?
Let’s forget about moving oil through a pipeline and send it over the road or rail or a tanker from overseas that burns fossil fuel and spill anywhere ,

YOU GO JOE !

"Well where is the study ?"

  1. You would not read it.
  1. You would discredit it.

It doesn't matter. You are like Trump. An audience of one. Unless the echo chamber reverbs with what YOU want to hear, it doesn't matter.

sn1987---->Hmm, I wonder what could cause all of that? Not climate change caused by human burning of fossil fuels? No!

LMAO - The Paris Climate Accord was signed 1,761 days ago by every country on the globe. Funny thing, no one can produce the amount of money spent by each country, the impact of said dollars in each country and most importantly the penalty for each country that missed their (rolling eyes) science based targets. But....I'm sure every citizen impacted by the regressive impacts are happy.

I vaguely remember the day the Accord was signed. You could not find a tarmac parking slot for the very next private jet that flew some limousine liberal in to witness the signing. Let em eat cake baby!

So, in addition, half the windmills were frozen, but the other half put out more than twice the power as expected for this time of year, because of the high winds I guess.

We should have a discussion about why Texas is suffering this freakish weather. I mean, don't you think the climates been a little weird the past couple of decades? Hmm, I wonder what could cause all of that? Not climate change caused by human burning of fossil fuels? No!
