Staying on topic . . .

This is an excerpt from

"In humans, race is a socially constructed designation, a misleading and harmful surrogate for population genetic differences, and has a long history of being incorrectly identified as the major genetic reason for phenotypic differences between groups. Rather, human genetic variation is the result of many forces—historical, social, biological—and no single variable fully represents this complexity. The structure of genetic variation results from repeated human population mixing and movements across time, yet the misconception that human beings can be naturally divided into biologically distinguishable races has been extremely resilient and has become embedded in scientific research, medical practice and technologies, and formal education."

It was produced by the National Academies of Science. Done at the request of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the report calls for scientists and the agencies that fund them to stop thinking of genetics in terms of race, and instead to focus on things that can be determined scientifically.

I like that definition.

@One

The reason why I asked Wayne if he was from the South is that the definition of racist is what we were taught in schools there. I am not sure if Wayne was smart enough (had to do that) to go to PK Yonge in Gainesville :) But there was a concerted effort in my school to differentiate between racism and stereotypes. (He will get the joke.)

I think it was in 7th grade and I remember part of what was done.

They showed a clip on gangsters. It was talking about the equation of Italians to be gangsters. It showed some other things similar to that. Then the teacher explained that those were stereotypes of where people were from, not their race. She then used this topic to discuss Venn diagrams. Are all Italians gangsters? Are all gangsters Italian? It was an interesting lesson.

So, yes, I was taught the same definition of racism that Wayne was taught. When I looked it up then in the dictionary it read as he wrote it. I am trying to think of when that definition shifted. To me it still makes no sense. Everyone stereotypes and stereotypes are not all race. Here is a stereotype, the retirees in South Florida are old New York Jews that come down and complain. Under the new/revised definition of racism, that would be a racist statement. I shake my head then.

What I was curious about though is if the definition is regional. As we are all roughly the same age. I know Wayne is from Gainesville, GO GATORS, my college!, I am from South Florida. I think the rest of you peeps are NOT from the south. What definition of racism where you taught?

Wayne,

I don't think Hump should be allowed to put my name/username in the topic. He knows I've block him. Yett you allow him to make his thoughts of me be visible in his post about Black people and reparations.

You believe it's fair for him to associate me with his post?

Pandora's Box has just opened. It's a horrible precedence that you're allowing.

@RonKathy.The government has ruined the the young generation. They depend on the government to support them. Also they don’t care about having a nice home nice cars nice clothes and having money in the bank. They will live with their parents as long as they can.

EA, my bad. You’re not a walking talking contradiction. I misread your statement. My apologies.

I disagree with it. But I’m not going to change your mind. Nor do I wish to try. You’re not going to change mine.

I'm just waiting for the watermelon jokes, since those are always a laugh riot.

"It's clear as day he thought black people were getting rich off white people's taxes and had a serious issue with that. But has no issue with the free labor that was being questioned in the first place.. Gotta love it"

Quoted for truth.

Sometimes I just want to smack the stupid out of people. And then I realize they'd have to cease to exist for that to be effective.

Bottom line folks.. we play with all, blacks, Indian, Jews, etc etc... if anyone lives in the past and not a life and future for ones self.. then you are the problem.. its history.. we all learn from it. ALL of our FWB are succesfull from the hard work, schooling, and values they now have in life.. and YES we travel with many around world.. ! They too think the exact same way.. no one owes anyone anything!

Shall I cry about parents grocery store being burned down in 1967 riots.. shall I cry about 5 riots I worked.. get over it people and move on. Shall I cry about relatives in actual holocaust NO..

Make your own life, own future and own success!

Wow people.. enjoy life every day its your choice!

“There are common stereotypes that are used that some, when they hear it, scream RACIST, and I just scratch my head. Things such as, Asians are good at math, Mexicans are lazy, jews are good with money, blacks like fried chicken, White people can't dance.”

But wondering if the Champions dinner (which the current champion decided the menu) was going to have fried chicken served at it is just stereotyping?

You’re a walking, talking contradiction.

Did he outwardly say anything racist.. No

Would I bet my life's earnings that he said the N word at least 15 times between seeing the article and hitting send on the post... Absolutely..

You've really got to think. What type of person hears/reads this article, does ZERO research on what actually happened, gets on a sex website for swinging, and the FIRST thing out his mouth is "If you're black to you need to move" and "Guess who's paying for it" as if no black people (or other races) pay taxes also. Sometimes you can skip past what they're saying and ask yourself "Why would they say this?"

It's clear as day he thought black people were getting rich off white people's taxes and had a serious issue with that. But has no issue with the free labor that was being questioned in the first place.. Gotta love it

Wayne, that racist clown Hump singles me out in the original topic post.

He's blocked. We don't see each other's posts. I'm not living in that state.

Think deeply about that Wayne.....

sis_WayneC, the only rule that should be enforced in the political forum is if you can't handle the heat don't come into this section of the forum. If someone doesn't like what someone else posts then block them. I have blocked a few but I always like a good discussion so I put up with other peoples BS. It is all fun and I do get some good laughs from some of the folks that post. To those who throw the racist card, get a life and get a thicker skin because if you are calling racism you need it.

@Wayne

Are you from the south?

Why? Because you and I use the same definition of racism. Racism to me is saying that one race is better than the other just because of race.

To use an example, when Tiger Woods won the championship the first year at Augusta, the comment from one of his competitors was about the club serving fried chicken and collard greens the next year. People stated that was racist. IMO, NO, that was not racist. That was stereotyping.

To me Hump walks the line into racism at times but spews a ton of stereotyping. I don't find stereotyping inherently bad. There are common stereotypes that are used that some, when they hear it, scream RACIST, and I just scratch my head. Things such as, Asians are good at math, Mexicans are lazy, jews are good with money, blacks like fried chicken, White people can't dance. To me, there is basis in some of that, but it does not denote racism.

“As far as your defintion using "antagonism", almost all of you here in the political thread are doing that to each other.”

That is just a foolish statement.

Stop! Not based on race. Never! Political points of view? Sure. Not based on race.

“ESPECIALLY so as to distinguish them asinferioror”

So telling a black person to move and to do it quickly before the money runs out is not distinguishing them as inferior and this is the only way they will get money?
