I will add that something that has been kept quiet is the number of death threats Barack Obama faced when he became president versus the number faced by GW Bush or Trump as president.

In any case, this white mob riot incited by President Trump will be looked at in history as another riot by a white mob against a legal fair and just legal process.

It was a lynch mob of sorts engaged in by a mob that included self identified white supremacists and incited by a president that has identified too much with White supremacist groups and who appealed to anti-black racism as well as anti-brown racism to win his election in 2016.

I agree with editorials in the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio paper calling for Ted Cruz to resign as Senator.

For me, the best way to look at the mob riot on January 6th is to look at the photo of a white man parading the Confederate flag through the invaded Capitol building.

I made a mistake. I misjudged a book y its title. Prager’s book, subtitled The Reason for Antisemitism, is a history of anti-semitism, not a case for it.

I found Prager’s essay on “Fallacy of White Privilege.” It’s very short essay National Review, a publication founded by William Buckley who in or around 1957 made a case for the need to slow down desegregation of the South.

Prager’s essay would probably get a C- if it was submitted as an essay for a freshman composition class at any college in the USA except “Bob Jones University” in South Carolina, which once had a ban interracial dating.

Prager’s essay is silly and pernicious. One of his main arguments against white privilege is that white men commit suicide at a higher per capita rate than African Americans. He does not point out that African American have a much shorter average life span in USA than White men

(White men in upper class live much longer on average than lower class white men so class also needs to factor into an analysis of privilege too)

I can see why you might prefer Prager’s essay. He puts the subject of white privilege in no historical context. He does not address any of the points McIntosh or I have made for existence of White privilege.

The essay could be read by a person with a 1 minute attention span as a limit as it’s so short and simplistic.

What do you think is Prager’s best argument to debunk or prove that white privilege is a fallacy?

White men commit suicide more per capita than White women. Does that prove white men have less privilege and power in society than White wines. A more important statistic is that white women make something like 70% less than White men for same job.

For a fairer analysis of White privilege in the USA, you would need to compare and contest 5 essay you could find in the subject of White privilege in books and journalism. One very short essay by one one source from a famously right wing magazine cuts no mustard.

Try citing an essay on White privilege in a publication or journal that is peer reviewed or that is authored by a person of color or published in a respected publication that has no history of supporting segregation

I was not stereotyping him. I was using his self-identification

We all stereotype and make assumptions and quick initial judgments

No liberal or conservative is free of doing that, including me.

We all have a measure of implicit racism in us.

The key for me is to develop the range of experience and openness and humility and empathic curiosity to listen to others and study the complexity of past and present to know how to challenge our own assumptions and prejudices as well as that of others.

I stereotype. I make assumptions. I try as well to challenge or question my initial judgments abs assumptions or to keep open minded and open hearted.

I’m always curious to understand why people across all ranges of cultures and ethnicities are alike and what makes each of us different too.

I keep trying to learn and see better and listen better.

I also feel some strength in my opinions and judgments in matters that I have studied deeply.
