Oregon State Police on Thursday pulled out the approximately 100 troopers helping both federal officers and Portland police in responding to nightly protests in the city that have often ended in confrontations with demonstrators and arrests.

State police committed to two weeks “and that two weeks ended today,” said spokesman Capt. Timothy R. Fox.

“We’re in a county that’s not going to prosecute this criminal behavior,” Fox added.

It was a pointed reference to Tuesday’s announcement by new Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt that his office won’t pursue many of the charges against demonstrators, including disorderly conduct, interfering with a police officer and even riot in some circumstances.

The troopers will return to their regular assignments elsewhere in the Willamette Valley, along the coast, and in southern and eastern Oregon, where police staffing already is limited, Fox said.

“The Oregon State Police is continually reassessing our resources and the needs of our partner agencies and at this time we are inclined to move those resources back to counties where prosecution of criminal conduct is still a priority,” he said.

State police were sent to Portland on July 30 under an agreement between Gov. Kate Brown and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to try to curtail the clashes throughout the month between federal officers and some protesters outside the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse in downtown. Officers fired tear gas and impact munitions at the crowds after some people lobbed commercial fireworks, glass bottles, paint-filled balloons and other objects at them over the fortified fence or tried to damage the fence or the building.

Oregon State Police announced they will pull out of downtown Portland where nightly protests have continued for weeks, sometimes devolving into late-night clashes with law enforcement. The decision came after the county district attorney said Tuesday that he will not prosecute most cases against protesters who are arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, interfering with a peace officer or other low-level offenses.

I kinda enjoy reading the writing of misinformed people. It's comedic.

Portland has decided to not prosecute those that were charged with non-violent misdemeanors. They gave a list and it was basically the equivalent of if you got a ticket for jaywalking, they ain't going after it. If you did anything violent or destructive, they are prosecuting. So basically, the same as everywhere else.

Wow Trump caused the Chicago looting ......BLM. Spokesman Ariel Atkins , said that looting is fine . It is a form of reparations . Large businesses have insurance so they will get their money back.
People and businesses will just move away like what is happening in California , Chicago and New York.

I think the state police have pulled out of Portland becouse they are not prosecuting the rioters.
So in Portland you break the law and go free to do it again tonight.
I hear the storm troopers are no longer there also.

These protests are happening because of Trump.

There is significant evidence that the looting is being done by criminal bands not affiliated with the demonstrations, or fomented by conservative provocateurs.

Not to mention the tactics of the Trump stormtroopers have made the situation worse.

Well if you look at Portland , Chicago or any other city that is allowing riots to happen and you lived there would you vote Democrat ?
I think the Dem. mayors and governors got the strategies wrong this time.
They should look into how the voters voted in the areas of past riots.

I'm not a Reagan fan. But he won everything except Walter Mondale's home state of Minnesota.

Reagan took 525 of 538 Electoral Votes.
Doubt that will ever happen again. At least not in my remaining 20-30 years (5-7 elections) on Earth.
